Goya's Ghost Thread
Hey guys!
There's been quite a bit of buzz around this one, shot in Spain and starring Natalie alongside Javier Bardem. Looks very good, and according to natalieportman.com Spain already has a trailer out? Goya's Ghosts (2006) Directed by Milos Forman Writing credits Jean-Claude Carrière and Milos Forman Genre: Drama Plot Outline: Painter Francisco Goya faces a scandal involving his muse, who is labeled a heretic by a monk. Natalie Portman .... Ines/Alicia Javier Bardem .... Brother Lorenzo (the Monk) Stellan Skarsgård .... Francisco Goya Randy Quaid .... King Carlos IV Release dates for Goya's Ghosts (2006): USA 2006 Netherlands 30 November 2006 Brazil 9 February 2007 Finland 16 February 2007 Sweden 16 February 2007 Story: Goya's ghosts centres on the monk Lorenzo, who enamors himself of Inés, the muse of the Spanish painter Francisco Goya, who has been incarcerated by the Inquisition spearheaded by Lorenzo. He fosters a daughter called Alicia with her, the result of a rape, before being stripped from office and banned; he will return to Spain two decades later and find his daughter and the deaf painter waiting for him. Information from imdb.com There's also a lot of buzz on the movie, because it was reported that Natalie is to go nude, however I think that claim was false and there will be a body double. __________________

Thanks for setting up a thread for this movie, Shannon! I'm going to put it in the board guide!
I heard about the trailer, and I've seen pictures. It does look good. I would really love to see the trailer! |

No problem, Tina!
Yeah it does look good. I'm surprised that Spain got the trailer first, but I heard they were really gracious during shooting and it was pretty much all shot there, so it's the least the promotional distributors could do. I'm gonna go find some info to dress up the opening post. __________________

That's cool, Shannon! It looks nice.
And I agree with you on the whole Spain thing. But I don't know why we haven't seen any trailers here yet (USA)... it is 2006. Or maybe I've missed it...? |

Thanks for this thread, I hadn't heard of this movie production but it sound interesting. If it's already been advertised in Spain, have they already translated it?

Cool! I'm getting a bit excited about this film. Do you guys think Natalie will have an accent for it?

I'm quite excited about this movie. I love Milos Forman, Javier Bardem and Stelan Skarsgard.
A limited release is bad news. These countries already have release dates: USA 2006 Spain 10 November 2006 Germany 23 November 2006 Brazil 9 February 2007 Netherlands 15 February 2007 Finland 16 February 2007 Sweden 16 February 2007 __________________

In case you haven't seen it, the English trailer for Goya's Ghosts is finally out. Well, I don't know if it's out officially, but it's up on YouTube. You can check it out here.
I think it looks really good; I especially love the music (which is kind of a random thing to really like about a trailer, but anyway). I'm a little worried that Natalie's accent might sound fake, but I worried about the same thing when I saw the V trailer, and I ended up loving it when I saw the movie. So, I will give it the benefit of the doubt. |

I just watched the english trailer tonight, I liked what I saw, I think it will be quite good, and it'll be nice to see if this one is even close to V...but with the limited exposure, we'll have to see...

I really wish they would come out with more details about the theatrical release. There's very little time left in 2006. Is that when the movie is actually going to come out? Somehow I doubt it.
Sometimes we get limited releases where I live, so hopefully I'll get to see this in theaters. Of course, if it's a NY/LA limited, then I guess most of us will be missing it. But I find it very hard to believe that the release will be that limited. From the looks of the trailer, I certainly wouldn't call it an indie movie. So, I assume all fairly major cities will get it. And maybe it will even get a bigger release if it sells enough tickets. Brokeback Mountain, anyone? __________________

It looks really good. Natalie's such a great actress. Have you guys noticed that she's always in films where she has to scream or cry a lot?
