 You know, I was holding her yesterday, and she was crying and then she stopped. And I've held a lot of babies; I've fixed a lot of babies. But, I looked down at Zola, and I don't know what it was, but I just couldn't imagine her being with any other parent or any other family. We've been trying so hard to start a family, and she needs one. Let's adopt her. I'm serious, let's adopt her. - Derek; 7x20                  __________________

 Plans never work out the way you think they're going to. Especially with babies. You try and try to get pregnant and you can't. And then the baby comes when you least expect it. Probably because you didn't plan it. Plans don't mean anything. - Meredith; 9x07       __________________

What really bugs me about this storyline is that while we've really seen Mer be very supportive of Derek's new project (she even gave his speech about it for him when he couldn't), we haven't really seen Derek be supportive of Mer during this time. She's just expected to make all the sacrifices, and I don't think they're a true team when he makes life-altering decisions for the two of them by himself.
So last week Mer found out about Cristina and this week they don't even address the emotional fallout that will entail? M/D should've had a discussion this episode where Derek listens to her worries about Cristina leaving and supports her. __________________

It's also a slap in the face to Amelia. I could not believe when he suggested Amelia move to Seattle and they move to DC, because the whole point of what Amy told Mer was that she wanted to be closer to HER FAMILY. She doesn't want to be in Seattle just cuz. She wants to be with her big bro and sister-in-law. It also sounds like she's getting attached to Zola and Bailey. I don't think she'll take this news lightly. Seriously hope we see her two cents.

Yeah, it seemed so weird. Honestly, Amelia wouldn't have come to Seattle if Meredith and Derek weren't there, and she has no good reason to stay there if they leave. She hasn't had scenes with anyone aside from Meredith and Derek (one-on-one scenes). So she really has no good reason to stay there if they're not there. It's not like they've showed her bonding close with Callie. I know Derek recommended Amelia for the project, but it really seems like the reason Amelia wants to stay in Seattle is for Derek and Meredith. And just last episode Derek was asking Amelia to stay for him.
It also doesn't help Meredith and Derek with their balance issues if MerDer are across the country. Though, they're probably closer to Derek's other family. I think it was mentioned Derek's mom is in New York, which is still like 4 hours from DC. That's not helping them with their family balance. Even if Derek isn't traveling, he'll still be working all the time, and that leaves Meredith to take care of the kids and not able to focus on her career. As we saw in 10x20, the problem isn't Derek traveling. Their issues still arise when they're both in the same city. The whole purpose of Derek wanting Amelia to stay in Seattle (as Meredith and Derek both mentioned) was to help balance their life out, both at home and at work, so her staying in Seattle and them moving to D.C. defeats that purpose because they're going to have the same issues they've been having, and I worry Meredith would basically become a single mom if Derek is focused solely on his work. I hope Meredith speaks up. |
