Thanks for the thread. Stephanie is and has always been a stalling technique. There's nothing there so the writers should put their energies elsewhere. I'm not expecting anything on the japril front in the next few episodes but I haven't really been keeping up with spoilers. Does anyone have any news.

I don't see it that way at all. Did we see all these Jesus stuff before April lost her virginity? I think SR had this idea and Sarah loved it and that's why it took so long for this type of discovery for April to happen. Also I don't think anyone goes around talking about saving themselves for marriage because one made a vow to god. So I can see why Jackson didn't know, but I bet her female friend (Reed) did. I don't think the storyline is a failure in the whole sense but parts of it could have been written better.

I think it was a failure because it was a plot point and used for shock value and as a way to have April fail her boards. There was no lead up to April's religion or saving herself. There were no clues dropped along the way. No viewer thought April was a virgin because of Jesus. If something is organic then it doesn't come off as a shock and it's not played for jokes. I've accepted that this is apart of April but when it happened, I was definitely scratching my head at the writers and thinking that it was solely a plot device, which it has been.

Sarah said in a recent interview that April is constantly surprising her. She didn't know she was a virgin and she didn't know she was Christian. I don't mind the religion part but it's so shallowly done and only used on reference to her romance and sexuality. There was no reference to it prior to 821 and they could have sprinkled it in several episodes in season eight to make it feel more organic. This aspect of April should have served as a way to round out her character but it was used as an obstacle and a joke. I did like how they used it in the 200th with April expressing frustration with people's perception of her faith. As it was used last year it's hard to take it seriously.

ITA. I've accepted it because it's there but it was poorly integrated into the fabric of the story and even more poorly developed character wise. If I was waiting for marriage for religious reasons, I would be insulted by the simplistic, caricatural way it was portrayed.
Also, would she throw herself at Alex in an on call room, just asking that he goes slow, if she was waiting truly for marriage? And I always think back to her speech:
I am a 28-year-old virgin, mainly because I wanted my first time to be special, and then I waited too long, and partially because I'm pretty sure guys find me annoying.
I think those were perfectly valid reasons. It was consistent with her character. It just hadn't happened, and she had grown insecure, and she hadn't found the right person. And I saw her growing in confidence in season 8 and looking at Jackson and ready to go there as a natural progression.
The first and only time religion was mentioned for her was at the beginning of the very same episode, when she said her whole family/town was praying for her.

They threw that in there for shock effect and to drive a wrench between Jackson and April.
The way they could have developed it afterwards that would have been more realistic is that she was raised at the country, with Christian values, including waiting for marriage, but as she moved to the city, and became a doctor, and saw everything she saw, she was distanced from her faith and wasn't sure what it really meant to her anymore. They could have made her take a path of faith rediscovery, it would have been more consistent with what we had seen on screen up to that point.

According to her latest interview SR had come to her and told her that's where it was heading way before season 8 So I doubt she didn't know. Also a plot point or more less shock value wouldn't keep being brought up. The way she was acting from the moment she was on this show everyone and their mother should have known April was a virgin. Ironically, Sarah used the same "innocents" that Alison Brie used in community to let the viewers know she was a virgin until they actually had her admit it. As I said before it was noticeable in season 6 and as the seasons went by it just became logical that she was and there are only a few reasons for her to be. She hasn't mean the right one, Religious reasons or just isn't ready. of course it could have been a medical reason also but the fact is I didn't and no one over at TWOP (which I posted their in Season 6/7 a lot) was shocked or surprised by April talking about religion reasons as to why she hadn't had sex.

I like that they put this as part of her character for the fact that Religious characters are far and few between. I remember Izzie only went to church when she was cheating with a married man, Callie only went because she was praying for izzie to make it ect .. I have always wanted a character to show their religion because that's what they're about not as some tool to keep the storyline going and I find April to be consistent where it's concerned.

Alison Brie isn't a virgin on community. She had sex with a gay guy so she's just unexperienced. Lots if people were line WTF when April said Jesus hated her. If they were planning it for that ljng they should have done a better job of laying the ground work for the character and they had plenty of opportunities. April just seem high string. Type A and social awkward which is actually a lot like Annie Edison but that's not the same thing as being religious especially so deeply religious.

I totally forgot she told Britta and Shirley she had "Relations" in High school. None the less though Sarah and Alison seem to play their characters very similar. As I have said before go look over at TWOP when April started to talk about saving herself for god a lot of people called it over there so while maybe other places included here didn't know, lots of us pretty much called it from day one.

Remember Tony's twitter comment? That there is HOPE for Japril. He put them first in his tweet. He knows fan love them together.

It's just a matter of WHEN. And right now, I think we'll be lucky if it's at least in the second half of this season. I don't see it happening in the first 12 episodes. Best case scenario is that it will happen by the end of episode 12!!!
