[Episode Discussion] Chicago PD - 5x01 - "Reform"
Airs Wednesday, Sept. 27 10PM EST Times are a-changing at District 21. When a young bystander is shot during a difficult operation, the top brass question Halstead's involvement, in this fifth season premiere. The district is in a state of change - Lindsay has moved to New York- and the CPD is under scrutiny about the corrupt nature of its institution. Under the watchful eye of the city, the team attempts to bust a gun deal that quickly turns dicey when innocent civilians and children get involved. Tension erupts when Chief Lugo (guest star Esai Morales) brings in Denny Woods (guest star Mykelti Williamson) to review the shootout, and Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) becomes a key player in the outcome of the case. . __________________

Great episode!
The opening scene with Jay in Erin's empty apartment was pretty sad I can't believe he was going to propose and this is how it ends, I was really hoping for some closure there. I also felt bad for Voight when he said Erin was like a daughter to him. The case was intense, poor Jay feeling so guilty I loved how they brought Antonio back, I'm so glad he's on the team again. It was also great to see Kim again. __________________

This episode really highlighted how shady Chicago politics are. Happy that Voight made peace with the alderman to save Jay's reputation and in the larger sense, his very life. I can't imagine what would happen to him if besides losing Erin, he also lost his career. Very sad episode for him. Ingrid, I hope we get a better sense of closure than what has happened so far.
I have a feeling that we haven't heard the last of the person the alderman wants to protect. Don't think for a minute that Voight will just forget about and consider it the price of doing business. This will fester in the back of his mind and IMO there will come a time when he's able to bring him down. Or I could be totally wrong. Thoughts? OMG!! Burgess met someone?!?!?! Noooooooooo! OK - rant over now. So did she really? Or is she merely trying to keep Adam at arm's length for now? In any case my heart broke a little when she said that to him. And when I saw the defeated look pass over Adam's face. And can I just say..........Welcome back Antonio!!! All in all this was a great premier! __________________

I think it's time for Ruzek to move on.....and it kills me to say it..but he can't just keep getting kicked in the nuts by Burgess. It's painful to watch.
I felt it was a little jarring, but maybe it's the new showrunner. The weird scene between Atwater and Ruzek was so out of character for Ruzek. It didn't make sense. They needed to build that up over a few episodes, an incident to have happened not just bang in your face Ruzek is suddenly a 'racist' cop picking on someone because of his colour. Nope...didn't work. I will say, so far so good seeing everyone get a chance to shine (although Al was pretty quiet). |

I hate the Alderman guy and Bubba (don't his name but I call him Bubba because of Forrest Gump). I never thought I would see the day where Hank would be in therapy. As far as Jay and Erin go she just didn't call write nothing, I find that hard to believe.

Sorry, I was out of it for a few days.
So glad it's back. Very intense episode. I think I'm going to watch it again. I felt bad for Jay in most of it. I didn't like Atwater and Ruzek at odds with each other. Hopefully, that will not be a trend. Burgess met somebody?? What?? I still have hope for later in the season. So glad to have Antonio back!!! __________________
