Matt and Julie were relatively believable, especially because they broke up and came back together and made that choice. But it's a rare one.

Lucas and Peyton generally liked each other as human beings and got along and had many interests in common, which helps, lol.

The OC wasn't great at building interests for Ryan OR Marissa. Or really Summer? LOL. Seth had some and that's because he was Josh's stand-in. So Seth and Summer did not appear to have many interests in common, but it's harder to say about Ryan and Marissa.

Very true, but OTH didn't a great job of that with Nathan/Haley and Brooke/Julian either

To some extent, even though Haley's later characterization was ADD and lazy in particular, I DID know more about the girls, though. Brooke always had her art, Haley loved music and loved to read and teach, etc. Nathan was 100% about basketball. Julian was a high school nerd who was all about making movies. I'm not sure either pair was great at showing how compatible they were, but with Ryan and Marissa, I honestly couldn't tell you, lol. Maybe? Maybe not? Who knows?
