My phone actually works fine when I’m walking, but I learned my lesson about driving in Manhattan, lol. Don’t do it.

Considering the monopoly Google Maps has on the market right now, you would think it could get the basics right? It keeps turning a 20 minute journey into 1 hour+ by sending me in various complex loops around the time. I have no faith in it at all! |

One issue that really annoys me with Google Maps, given my location in suburban VA right outside of DC, is that it's spotty or sometimes just lying about the amount of time you'll save with a toll. I feel like they have a deal with EZPass, lol.

That wouldn't surprise me, feel like it's the same down here.

Oh, that's interesting! I haven't come across that before, but would not surprise me at all. I even find it's giving me absurd directions when walking, I was 5 minutes away from a destination and took almost 40 minutes to get there because it was trying to send me through a road that did not exist. Unfortunately, I have not found a better alternative either.

Oh, it’s hopeless for walking sometimes. I tried to ask how to walk to the Tidal Basin after work because that’s where the cherry blossoms are in season, and I was really only asking for the last loop and it tried to take me along the most convoluted path when really, I can just walk left from my building in a straight line and get pretty close, lol.

The PITA of the GPS is one reason I don't regret returning to the metro. It's just less stressful, lol.

Wow! It's shocking how bad it is and how there are no real major competitors too? Like, there's no real choice but to rely on terrible software, that can actually become dangerous! I was wondering what will it take for them to improve, and it worries me what it will have to come to TBH.
I'll often take public transport if I'm not sure because Maps worries me too much in busy city driving. |

Oh, you know when I’ve had them spectacularly fail? During thunderstorms. Not surprising, of course, but there’s nothing worse than being lost and hearing that crack of thunder, lol.

One time, and this is true, the GPS completely failed - not during a storm, lol, it was a nice day - and somehow sent my BFF and I into a town called Slaughter Beach. SLAUGHTER BEACH. And this place was CREEPY. We were kids too, we were like 21. It felt like the beginning of a horror movie.
