If there is a 2% chance...why risk it? And kids decide to commit suicide very quickly sometimes, so really, no minor should ever have access to a gun. Guns should be locked in safes if minors are in the home. You want one by your bed, get one of those tiny finger-printed activated cases that can fit in a drawer.

And really, unless you are like...hiding from the mafia, lol, why do you NEED it? If your child is suicidal, there is a significantly higher chance that they will harm themselves with your gun than that you will magically successfully protect yourself from imagined intruders.

People love to share anecdotes about those who protect themselves from intruders with guns, but in reality, it's not particularly common. Hence you are more likely, one way or another, to die at the hands of your own gun than you are to successfully protect yourself with it.

And when you look at the "success" rate of cops who hit their actual targets in a stressful situation (spoiler alert, it's not high), it's obvious why - life is not whatever cowboy fantasy these guys have thought up in their heads and these are dangerous, deadly weapons that all too often are not treated with the seriousness they should be. These are not toys. Stop calling it a hobby. These are weapons intended to kill. And if you're not careful, you will be the one who gets killed.

It's so weird to me when people call it that. I've heard it all my life, having grown up in a small Virginia town, and it's never computed. My uncle making walking sticks was a hobby, lol. Guns are not hobbies, and calling them that undermines how dangerous they are.
