It's a horrifying thought. THEY WERE FIGHTING TO MAINTAIN THE RIGHT TO OWN SLAVES. It's a complete non-starter for modern times, I don't want to see it. And I am a born and bred Southerner whose roots in Virginia literally go back to the Mayflower. My family fought for the Confederacy. They owned slaves. I say? **** them, thank God their depraved cause lost.

And yet, fun fact, they are only NOW changing the main road near my condo building so the name isn't "Lee Jackson Memorial Highway" (Lee and Jackson, the two major Confederate general). I live in a deep blue county, we're not even that conservative. It's embarrassing.

So much stuff is named Lee and Jackson, it was not even noticeable to me as a child. It took one of my high school teachers pointing it out before I was like "....Damn..." Virginia can be a fun state :/
