Is there a particular stat you want explained? I am no expert but can probably dig up a definition or formula somewhere.

That would be great thanks, i keep looking at this Scott Patterson.net - GALLERY - NY Yankees Yearbook 1983/NY-Yankees-Statisticsc and was just wondering about those figures.

I read in an interview also that he threw a 90mph ball, is that good?

I saw this movie where a guy was throwing 96mph and other were impressed but he was old so maybe not the best thing to compare

It depends what pitch he was throwing 90 mph, haha. But yes, 90 mph is good. Those stats... you want a low ERA. ERA is the thing that is most connected to pitchers. Scott did pretty well

ERA = Earned Run Average

The average number of earned runs scored against a pitcher in 9 innings. Example: if a pitcher lasts the entire 9 innings of a game and has an ERA of 3.0, the other team will be expected to have 3 earned runs in those innings. An earned run is a run that is the “fault” of the pitcher (i.e. there were no errors committed by any other member of the pitcher’s team, like dropping the ball or overthrowing a baseman). The lower the number, the better.

How is that on almost all the baseball cards his high is 6.2 but everywhere else it's 6.1 or even 6.0 I mean turning it into centimeters it's pretty BIG difference

he had a good year of 1981.. then he gor married and it didn't help

I am assuming you are talking about his height, which has been listed as 6 feet, 6 feet 1 inch, and 6 feet 2 inches on various baseball cards and other items listing biographical information. One explanation could be shoes. If he was wearing shoes when measured, and depending on the shoes themselves, his height would vary. I have heard that it is not uncommon for baseball players to wear their cleats when measurements are taken.

I asked a co-worker who is a baseball aficionado and he said this about a 90 mph fastball:
Quote:
Typically in the major leagues, mid-80s is average. Once you hit 90, you would be considered above average. 95 is extremely high, and only a few regularly pitch 95 mph.
Was the movie in which the character threw the 96 mph pitch “The Rookie”? If yes, in addition to the guy being of advanced age for an athlete, he had also had reconstructive surgery on the shoulder in his throwing arm.
