Thread Tags and Social Bookmarking

Quote:

All users with more than 100 posts can now add tags to threads across Fan Forum. These tags summarize the topics discussed in a thread, and can be used to find other threads that discuss the same topics.

Threads that have been tagged are marked with the icon: http://images.fanforum.com/misc/tag.png

The top tags used across Fan Forum can be viewed through the Tags cloud link now in the navigation bar at the top of every page.

Note that users with over 100 posts can change the tags on a thread, but only moderators and members of the management team can create new tags. If you wish to tag a thread with a tag that does not yet exist, please talk to the moderator of the forum where the thread has been posted.

If you have any questions or problems using tags, please direct your questions to the Info Center.

Last but not least, Lexipedia is responsible for the overall management of the tag cloud. Any questions or problems with tagging can also be directed to her.

Also, at the bottoms of thread pages just above the thread tags, there's a "Bookmarks" section. These are convenient links that can be used to link to that thread from a particular social networking site.

Rules/Guidelines for Tagging Threads.
  • Don't use "thread", "general" or "forum" in a tag name, it's redundant
  • If you're tagging a game thread, use the game name tag and the 'game' tag. For example, tag an abc game thread as 'abc' and 'game', not 'abc game'
  • Use both first and last names for celebrities and fictional characters. Some people have created threads using first names, e.g. 'chris', but that could apply to completely different people/characters.
  • As a general rule, use the singular version of a name rather than the plural, e.g. 'post count' rather than 'post counts'
  • If you're tagging a friendship or any other type of thread with more than one person, tag it as 'X', 'Y', 'friendship', 'x/y' and not as 'X/Y friendship'
  • If a shipper thread is already tagged with 'X/Y' coupe you don't need to tag it 'X/Y', 'X and Y', 'X & Y', 'Y & X' etc. One tag will work. (This goes for any other threads not just couples)
  • When tagging using appreciation, tags similar, use them appropriately, you don't need to tag everything with those tags. Shipper threads don't need this tag, instead you can use couple instead of appreciation. Appreciation tags should/can be used for for threads such as eyes, hair, smile, etc.
  • If a actor/actress/tv show/etc have a board here please tag with how they are listed on :ff: (If they don't have a board, please tag how actor/actress, is credited)

Keep in Mind
  • You need 100 posts to be able to tag
  • If a tag you would like isn't created, please contact the moderators of the board about it.
  • If you are unsure of how a shipper thread is tagged on a board, (a)check the tag cloud, (b) see if the board has a thread on how to tag or how the tags for board are listed, (c)check previous threads, (d) contact the moderators of the board, and (e) you can contact Lexipedia
  • Posters can't tag closed threads
  • Not sure how to tag, check out the tutorial here
  • Any concerns or questions please post in here or send a PM to Lexipedia

Common Tags
I've decided to list some of the common tags, such as picture, icon, fan art, and etc so everyone knows the common tags to use for these.
  • Picture (should be used for images, photos, etc)
  • icon (should be used for icons)
  • fan art (should be used for fanart, graphics)
  • animation (should be used for gifs, animations)
  • hate or love (should be used for hate it or love it, love it or hate it, love or hate) (this is for the game)
  • fan fiction (should be used for fan fictions)

Tagging Thread Tutorial

This is to help anyone that's confused on how to tag.
http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/7243/42731957.png
When starting a new thread at the bottom of where you post the opening posts you have the tags type in your tags, if you want to use more than one tag remember to use a comma.

If you want to add tags to a thread that are already made or already has tags look for the tag feature box at the bottom of the thread and then all the way to the right is the edit tags

While adding a tag you will see this (using the example abc) for this print screen you will get an auto complete. After you tag click save changes.

This is how a thread with tag(s) will look

Also, if you need a tag that isn't created you can PM the moderators of that board.

thanks for the thread chris!

Such a good idea, I'm sure the tags are going to be really helpful in finding threads.

What are you confused about?
For example if you're on a board and you want to tag the ABC game thread on that board, you can tag that thread with abc, game

Haylie, that might be helpful at the Mod board too. Also, maybe mention the guidelines :
  • using full names - Chris Pine or Chris Hemsworth instead of Chris
  • and both actual names and character names
    - Chris Pine, James T Kirk
    - Chris Hemsworth, George Kirk
And anything else.

ETA - feel free to edit whatever you want into the opening post. If you want, delete the first 3 posts so that you're the thread starter. :)

Hey

Is it possible for a non-mod to tag closed threads?

No it's not possible. Once it's closed only a moderator can tag that thread.

Chris, I'll probably get to all that tomorrow. :)

"You'reMyLittleSnowAngel" 02-28-2011 01:34 PM

Would you say there is/should be a limit to how many tags a thread has?
