It won't save as a .gif/.jpg./other How do I fix it?
First off if you're using AOL trying closing that down and try to use Internet Explorer and save the picture. If you were already using Internet Explorer or if it didn't work try going up to Tools on the toolbar >> Internet Options and then try to delete your temporary internet files. It should then be able to save it as the desired file type. You can also try having someone e-mail the picture file to you. You can also try this but be aware it doesn't always work on all computers. Try right clicking on the picture you want to save and then select "E-mail picture as...". Then a little screen will pop up titled "Sending Pictures Via E-mail" and it'll ask you if you want to make the picture smaller or keep the original size. Select the one to keep the original size and then click ok. Then another screen will pop up asking you to select a profile. Just select Outlook even if you don't use Outlook regularly. Then an outlook window for an e-mail will pop up with the whole "To..., From..., Cc..." and all that good stuff. Hopefully you'll see that under the Attachment section there's a tile of the picture file you want to save. You should be able to right click the picture tile and save it as the desired file type. Beware though that it doesn't work on all computers.

I recently had a Trogen/malware attack and had to dump AVG after years of use.

The PC started blocking websites like AVG and Microsoft.

Now just running the Windows AV security software.

Thanks for the new one.

I saw that Chris was going to see if the OP needed updated; I went ahead and did this; most of the links are still around. :)

Thanks for the new thread, Chris.

I'm sorry to hear that, Craig. Hopefully the situation is OK now.

The PC is my 2nd computer, mainly used as a media server, video converter and *cough* DLs but as I said it started blocking some legitimate websites like Microsoft, and blocked updates for AVG in the process. Ending up installing AVG, which I had to DL some software (using my Mac) from AVG to get it all off. Installed the MS Security software for XP, yes it's still running XP. When I eventually have the money I might upgrade but by then Win8 will be out.

My current computer related priority is saving up for my new iMac, which could be released in June but right now I have no idea on the final cost as the models might change along with the prices. I'm looking at spending up to $2000.

Tina - thanks for catching the ones I missed.:)

Suggestions for the OP are welcomed. :)

Craig - good luck saving up for your iMac. :)

Anyone else having issues with Windows software updates?

KB2518864, KB2633880 and KB2572073

These 3 security updates keep coming up after repeated installs on my WinXP but apparently I'm not alone and it's affecting more than just XP.

I assume MS is working on it but someone over on the social.technet.microsoft.com posted this fix. I haven't tried it just ignoring the update for now to see if MS sends a fix out.

Here is the link, yes it's a forum and I know we're not meant to post them here but since its a potential security issue I thought it might be ok, delete if not.

Problems with window updates of KB2518864, KB2633880 and KB2572073

Quote:

XP Professional SP3 with all prior updates applied. Same results.

The three KBs: 2572073; 2633880 and 2518864

What I did to correct this:

1. Removed all .NET versions from add remove programs - did not restart when promted until all versions were removed (1.1; 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 SP1 and 4.0)

2. Rebooted

3. Microsoft update site to get the .NET versions installed.

4. Rebooted

5. Steps 3 & 4 about seven times.

6. So far no more popup telling me that those need to be installed again.

7. This will be a nightmare for admins if this is the step to do as it took about 2 hours to complete those tasks.
ETA - a simpler fix out now (I just found) is to go to the Security Center CP and click on the Get latest updates... link, this will override the other and check for new security updates and it appears to have with the XP.

More details, 2.0 Memory?

Also what computer do you have, Mac/PC and how old is it?

Well the Ram is 2.0
and it's 3 years old and its a laptop

RedRooster 05-23-2012 03:37 PM

Never heard of 2.0 memory either.

Get CPU-Z and tell us what the Memory tab says.

~AnastasiaGrey~ 05-23-2012 03:49 PM

I don't have that on my computer.

I guess I am asking if I can upgrade memory on a laptop.

lancer1993 05-23-2012 03:56 PM

Do you mean SO-DIMM DDR2? There is no such thing as RAM 2.0.

Well first you need to know which Windows it's running, how many slots the laptop has (usually 2) and what RAM it already has and if both slots are being used for it. DDR2 for laptops is pretty cheap now.

Right click on 'My Computer' should give you this info. If not find out the model/make of you laptop and do a Google search.

I know you don't have that software, that's why I gave you the link to download it

lancer1993 05-24-2012 05:16 PM

I looked up some RAM prices as I'll like to add some more to my new iMac when I get it, I was surprised at the pice difference between the original DDR found in my G5 Mac and that used in the latest iMac's for less than the cost of 4Gb for this computer I can get 16Gb for the current iMac, which should last a while considering 4Gb is about the norm right now.
