Future Discussions Thread #1: The documentary explained!

Welcome to the Future Discussions thread! Here, we can discuss future aspects of the show all in one thread. Each interviewee in the documentary reveals important aspects of President Robert McCallister.

What should we talk about first?

Hmm......the affair would be an obvious one, or Jack's death. But we might want to start with something simple, like how he handled the bomb in Chicago.

That seems like a great place to start To refresh everyone's minds:

From Running Scared:

Quote:
The political aftermath
The bombing of Chicago had the country baying for blood. Strong circumstantial evidence pointed toward a Saudi Arabian fundamentalist sect. But President McAllister refused to send out the bombers without more evidence, which infuriated the public. He was right -the true culprit turned out to be an American who was part of a fundamentalist faction that wanted to start a war with the nations of Islam. Resisting the urge to lash out, said Bobby's National Security Advisor, was their greatest accomplishment.

I thought Bobby made the right choice in refusing to just charge into chaos. But I have to wonder at the lack of support from his staff. "threats of resignation"?! I mean, really, loyalty, people, loyalty!

The public always demands someone to blame. Much like trials. It doesn't matter if the right person gets delt with. Only that someone pays for the crimes that happened.

Bobby is right in keeping a cool head. Making such a decision would be bad for future days. I think that is something that everyone should take into consideration. How choices they make today will affect the world the next day.

I think it's important to find all the facts first. I agree with Michael that sometimes, the public wants someone to be held accountable for actions. I also like how Bobby waited until all the facts were found, then made his decision. He didn't act too fast or point the finger, which is a huge plus.

It was kind of weird to hear them say stuff about if history has taught them anything it was to not invade a sovereign nation, because they were talking about what we are going through now.

I think the writers did that on purpose. They're very bright.

And they like to tie in present and future. It's interesting thinking about what our actions in the present would be viewed as in the future.

This is a fantastic thread! It really is cool to see the effects of our present on the story's future. I think the reverse is true too, since knowing what happens to all the characters in the future makes us look more closely at what stories are being told now.

I agree that usually people need to place the blame on something bad happening to justify swift retribution (I'm guilty of that). I really did admire that Bobby was strong enough to wait until the answers to all the questions materialized, instead of jumping right into action.

I think this topic has been exhausted, so which aspect shall we cover next?
