I realized I never wrote anything about Yael´s S4 storyline in this thread.

IMO there was a not well done jump from "i get a make over" to "I already told everyone and use an new pronoun". The wig wasn´t explained at all even though Jamie once said on Twitter that there would be an explanation. But there wasn´t more than "I don´t like my hair", Lola uses a hairclip and suddenly the hair is okay.
All in all I think it would have been better for Yael´s storyline if they either would have given it more time or would have let her identify as girl who doesn´t behave according to stereotypes. They did a bit of that with Jane when she wanted to play football at all costs and in S3 I really thought that would be Yael´s route - Yael´s dynamic with the guys BTW was my personal highlight in S3.
As I discussed with someone on another board: The way they did the storyline and told the story before S4, it looks a bit like being genderqueer is the way out of the necessity to fit female stereotypes and I don´t think at all, that was the intention.

I tend to agree with your post. I think the story line could have benefited from perhaps playing out over a couple of seasons, rather than the few episodes we saw. I guess with only 10 episodes things can seem rushed and sometimes it pays off to take a slower pace. Are we going to see her family's reaction? If not I think that would be a big mistake on the show's part.

I think so, too. And the 10 episodes thing is not an excuse for everything. Instead of digging for the big reveal in S4, they could have foreshadowed it in S3. It´s one thing, when a story just seems rushed, it´s another when the message comes off wrong, as I described above, because they didn´t take the time, that would have been needed.

Totally agree. And they didn´t do anything with Yael being Jewish as well. I don´t know any Jews and I would be really interested in seeing something about that being played out.
