This show has been lacking in sister relationships (too bad we never to got to see much of Darcy/Clare), so I'm really looking forward to seeing the Maya/Katie dynamic and where that goes.

I honestly didn't plan on it but I thought it would be unfair for her not to have a thread too. In a way I'm surprised she wasn't the first of the new kids to have one. Maybe because there aren't many Katie fans around here?


I know she's also on another tv show called The Yard. I've seen gifs made from it but I can't seem to find much info on the actual show.

I feel like these two might partially be the writers making up for us not seeing Darcy/Clare. But either way at the root, both offer us that great living in your older sister's (who just happens to be Ms. High School) shadow. And that's something I'm sure anyone who's had an older sibling can relate to. I'm also a little curious to see if she has any kind of connection to Drew or Marisol. In one of the new Teennick promos you can see Maya chillin in the back seat as Marisol and Katie drive to school. I mentioned this in another thread recently but I like when they show us that yes so-and-so's sister/brother has a kind of relationship with their siblings' friends.

I think I'm most excited for her. It's going to be nice to see a little bit of sibling rivalry, especially with sisters. I like how she's being introduced as not wanting to be in her sister's shadow; that strikes me as one of the most believable things about the new characters connections to current ones. I'm surprised she's into music though. I don't know why. I think it's the dumb uniforms so for some reason my first thought was she's going to be the brainy one. Or the crusader like Emma and Tori would be the Manny. Glad that she's something different.

Remember when TeenNick posted the picture below? I have to admit when I first saw it I figured it was a case of two "good girls" so to speak, getting caught up in something silly.

From reading her bio, Maya may not be such a "good girl" after all. And I'm just fine with that.

I had the exact same reaction to that promo picture that you did.

And I'm also excited to hear that she's not a good girl after all and wants to be the exact opposite of her sister. I hope she lands a few good hits in that cat fight we've been seeing in promos. Yeah, I think I'm already picking a side...I'm into this girl!

It's exciting for me to be completely surprised by her bio. It reminds me a lot of when I first heard of Riley and groaned at the thought of another jock. And he turned out to be something completely different.

But, I do get what you're saying about being surprised by her bio and how that's a good thing.

Sorry, old high school emotional injury. But around the time Riley was introduced there was an emphasis on jock dudes. Most of the guys were on the football team. I remember there was this old seasonal promo where a character walks up to a table in the caf and they were all in their uniforms. They may have also had the popular girls by their sides. Hope we see more of a diverse group of social circles. It'll be interesting to see where Maya fits in.

So how did everyone like Maya's intro?

I'll say that it's pretty sad she was on the show for all of 4 seconds before being set up with a love interest but other than that I think I'm already a fan. She has a "cool girl" vibe that was severely lacking on this show. I loved the Maya/Katie scenes they seem to have a pretty chill relationship. I don't think Maya looks up to her but she doesn't dislike her sister either. I'm hoping that we'll see them team up at some point.

I dunno where Maya/Zig is going but I liked the scene where Tori and Tristan were telling her Zig was bad news.

I liked her, although I'm hoping we see a little more of the hinted at feisty Maya in upcoming episodes. I also ended up enjoying her scenes with Katie more so than the ones with the other niners.

Girl wanted to go to art school! I have to love her. So she plays the cello huh? That's kind of surprising but I like it. She can rock with that.

It might be completely too early and superficial for me to say this but I'm already headed into team Zig and Maya territory. I like the idea of the misunderstood boy with the artsy girl over the typical bad boy/pretty girl combo we'd get with Tori and Zig. It's still early though, who knows what happens and how I'll feel later. I'm hearing you guys on being worried about her being paired off so soon. This is going to head into a love triangle isn't it? Sigh. I don't know what ideal way I'd like for Maya to be introduced but I fear the dreaded love triangle.

^ Yeah they already have quite a fanbase on tumblr. Two years ago I think I would have been convinced but I've gotten pretty strict with my shipping.

I'm not looking forward to the love triangle but what keeps me hopeful is the fact there seems to be a friendship undercurrent to the whole situation. It's too early to tell but I just get the impression that no matter who's dating who these four are going to end up working as friends in many combinations.

The pull I like for Zig/Tori verses Zig/Maya is that they have history. I want to see how that factors in to this school year.

Ultimately I think I'm more concerned about them building great relationships more than who those relationships will be between. This last episode convinced me that if these are the kids who will inherit the show than I'm more than okay with that. I had a moment thinking about how in five years we'll look back and know how far they've come and that makes me excited.

So far, I really like Maya's character. She seems like a cool regular girl, not too dull or over the top. I like the fact that she's artsy and speaks her mind. She reminds me of a less uptight Clare in S8.

Anyways, I really enjoyed her scenes with Katie. Looking forwardto more sisterly bonding scenes between them. And I'm totally on Team ZAYA even though it's early, lol. They were just too cute one Monday's episode. However, I am so not looking forward to the triangle I'm sure it's going to be pretty bad by the looks of the promos. The fight between Maya and Tori had to be the worst thing I've ever seen on TV, lol.
