If you like Degrassi, you would like...

- Renegadepress.com **** This is a really good show. I think that I appreciate it even more than Degrassi??? Also Canadian and I believe Degrassi was an influence.
- My So-Called Life
- Freaks and Geeks
- Skins
- High School Confidential
- American High - I wish I could find this show somewhere online...but I haven't tried very hard.
- Higher Ground - Also Canadian with kids before they hit fame: see Hayden Christensen, A.J. Cook.
- Fifteen AKA Hillside - Anyone else watch this show? The kids never had any fun, the acting was bad, and it was Canadian. It was awesome!!!
- Swan's Crossing - This is a terrible show. I don't expect anyone to get through watching it on youtube. I tried to rewatch it recently on my VHS copies and got to about episode 15. But it does have a lot of the up and coming young stars of the 90's: Sarah Michelle Gellar, Brittany Daniel, and Mira Sorvino. I just want to mention this show to see if anyone else watched it.

I'll probably stop back in with book and movie recommendations. I just thought this might be fun to talk about other shows/books/movies you think fellow Degrassi fans would be into. Maybe in my next post I'll try to leap into this decade a bit better.

Ooh, I like the idea for this thread.

I have to say I LOVE Skins and My So Called Life.
I always really enjoyed Renegadepress.com, it's a shame it wasn't more popular. (I kind of enjoyed earlier in the show, the build up of Jack and Zoey)

Anyway, onto some of my own...

I'd say Edgemont, it's another Canadian show and it features Kristin Kreuk and Grace Park. It's a bit more light hearted than Degrassi though.

I grew up watching Ready or Not... though it's geared to a younger demographic. I also used to watch Felicity, which was geared to an older demographic.
Anyway, I'll try to contribute some more later.

Definitely Freaks and Geeks!

Daria
Ready or Not (I believe it's Canadian too)
Felicity -- probably the best college show in the last 10 years
The Wonder Years-- an oldie, but a goodie, and it's funny to play "Do You Know The Guest Star?" since they had a lot of celebs before they were famous
Blossom-- every teenage girl should watch this, a sitcom with razor sharp writing
Party of Five-- almost every episode will break your heart
Parker Lewis Can't Lose-- lots of fun and lots of heart

I'll come back with more if I think of any. And yeah, I watched Fifteen.

Doesn't Fifteen have a character named Johnny DiMarco also?

Good idea for a thread. I'll have to think about this a bit before posting, although I already have one out of the box idea already.

Nice picks! I haven't seen Edgemont or Ready or Not but I think I've heard people mention them before. I downloaded the entire series of The Wonder Years but I haven't watched it yet...I loved that show growing up though. I've caught a few episodes of Party of Five off and on and probably will eventually catch up with that. For some reason I'm associating Party of Five with some other show that would air in reruns on a Sunday night...it had Kellie Martin...

LIFE GOES ON! I want to see that again someday.

I thought you were crazy for thinking this! But it turns out there was a John Dimarco! Hillside (TV series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia But I can't remember him at all. Do you remember what season he was in? For some reason I think he would be hanging around with Dylan, but I'm probably just associating him with Degrassi's Dimarco.

I just found out the first season of Fifteen is on Itunes! Great facebook page for the show: Fifteen | Facebook

I know there were a couple others who mentioned they watched Fifteen and lately the show is getting a little bit of action! It's on Itunes for download and getting some promotion! Robyn Ross aka evil Brooke did a youtube interview with...whoever is behind the awesome facebook page. She's still very charismatic and has this glow about her. It was amazing to see her again after all these years! She talked a little bit about what she thought Fifteen did for teens and based on what she said I'm surprised she never mentioned Degrassi (especially since she's from Vancouver)! She also let us know where some of her co-stars are at. Here's the links: YouTube - Fifteen The Series - Robyn Ross Interview PT.1 YouTube - Fifteen The Series - Robyn Ross Interview PT. 2

Lifetime movies. One of my personal favorites is one I watched with Nicole and Joa. I don't remember what it's called, but the lead character was really into cutting. She had a wonky eyebrow. Her mom also bought her ugly sweaters that she hated! Typical teen drama. Perfect follow up to watch with friends after Degrassi.

^ I think it was either Painful Secrets or Secret Cutting.

CAN WE TALK ABOUT LIFETIME MOVIES NOW? Painful Secrets was the movie we watched Callie. I won't ever forget that eyebrow!

That's not in my top list of Lifetime movies about troubled teens though. My list would have to be (in no particular order):
- The Secret Life of Zoey
- Fifteen and Pregnant
- Augusta, Gone
- Mom at Sixteen
- Gracie's Choice
- Sharing The Secret
- Moment of Truth: Someone To Love Me
- Moment of Truth: The Accident
- Unwed Father
- Terror In The Family

And that's just the ones about teenagers/young adults.

I never watch Lifetime movies. But apparently my dad watches them all the time... so um... yeah.

Actually I don't really watch any shows that are anything like Degrassi. My taste in TV is kind of all over the place. Like I'll watch complex, award-winning shows and I'll also watch something totally meaningless on Nickelodeon or Disney Channel. But I think any TNG fans who have never seen DJH/DH should start with that!

Degrassi Junior High/Degrassi High
South of Nowhere
Veronica Mars
Pretty Little Liars

The last two aren't very much like Degrassi, but they are teen dramas, and I like them, and if you like mystery you would probably like both shows. DJH/DH is pretty self-explanatory, plus, it's still super addicting. South of Nowhere is similar to Degrassi is some aspects, although the cast is much smaller.

Also, I forgot to mention a few books:

Crank/Glass- Great series by Ellen Hopkins about a young girl named Kristina who becomes addicted to drugs, and how it not only effects her life, but her family's too. There is a third book in the series titled Fallout, but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

Burned- Also by Ellen Hopkins, it's about a teenage Mormon girl, Pattyn, who is sent to live with her open minded Aunt J. for a summer. Her father is an alcoholic in the story, and also abuses her and her mother.
