Healthy food from the supermarket
Hey
I'm goin shopping in a while & wondered if anyone would suggest any good healthy foods to get meals, snacks, (i'm trying to eat more heathy). so far i got porrige, cereal, fruit. thanks |
Veggies of course. And get lots of water.
I eat a lot of whole-grain bread, which is good. If you are thinking of meat, I'd stick to turkey or fish; Try to avoid a lot of red meat. I don't know about your grocery store, but ours has a specific Health Food aisle where you can find low-fat or low-cal versions of regular food, like pastas and cereals and drinks and things like that :) |
Skimmed milk is a good choice. If you're not used to it, it can taste a bit weird at first, but after a week or so it should be OK. I like to add a very small pinch of powered cinnamon, its zests it up a bit :D

A good rule of thumb is that food is healthy if it's fresh.
Healthiest: fresh fruit and veg. Next best: frozen. Avoid: canned or boxed unless you're dealing with a whole grain cereal. Also, the less ingredients something has, the better it is for you. I'd suggest avoiding all meat but I'm a vegetarian. |
Frusli bars are always good, especially if you ever have to leave the house without having breakfast.
This is my favourite brand: http://www.jordans-cereals.co.uk/upl...9063092763.jpg Healthy and yummy ;) |
Thanks for all the help, i got fruit, veg, some low gat yogurt, porrige,

Sounds like you made some very good choices. :) One note about yoghurt is that if it's flavored yoghurt, you should make sure that it doesn't contain an artificial sweetener (like aspartame) or gelatin (which is a meat product). |
after i got diagnosed with hyopglycemia last year i got sent to a nutritionist. here's the gist of what i was told:
avoid sugar. canned soup can be good of it's low in sodium. cheese is under-rated. it makes a good snack b/c it fills you up quickly and has a lot of protien. soy nuts (eps. roasted and salted) are awesome! and i'm really picky but i love 'em. can't say enough about fresh fruits and veggies. avoid all kinds of white bread- loaves, beagles, ect.- always go whole grain when you can. don't even go near the snack foods like chips or soda. |

It bugs me that healthy food is more expensive than junk food. I mean you can get a pound of grapes for 5 dollars or you can buy 12 doughnuts for 15 cents.

ok I checked, its a british brand called Jordans and they make lots of organic health food - cereals, health bars etc... but they have been around for a while so you may be able to find them, not sure :S |
Nature Valley Granola bars are very good for you. Organic spinach is great for a salad. Chicken, turkey and fish are great. Yogurt and fresh fruit or veggies are a great snack. Um, what else? I probably named things already listed . Just drink alot of water and fresh stuff and you're good to go :D
