Cover Letters?
I'm really in desperate need of a job and right now i'm trying to apply to as many places as possible that just are asking for Resumes...because I seem to have lost the piece of paper I had all my previous work experience on in moving (eh...I think my sister threw it out since she packed up my room for me even though I told her not to).
I see a lot of ads that say "Send a cover letter and resume to..." and I'm just wondering....what should I put in a cover letter? I know I should say, stuff like, I saw your ad, I'm very interested in this position, blah blah blah...but I honestly have no idea if I should put more or what. So...help me out, because I'm clueless...and broke. |
1. Your name and contact info at the top right hand corner.
2. Your employer's name and address after that but on the left side. 3. Besides the stuff you already mentioned, also sell your skills relevant to the job. An important thing to remember is not to just repeat what you already said in your resume. Elaborate more specifically. 4. Say why you are interested and what you could contribute. 5. Don't write a super long letter. In general, just 3 paragraphs. First paragraph should be the opening/introduction. Second is the meaty part. Third is the closing. 6. In the closing, say that you look forward to hearing from them and that you've enclosed your resume and if they have any additional questions, you would be glad to answer them. Cin, you are a veritable plethora of helpful information. Thank you.

See, whenever I asked my mom about how to write a cover letter she just blew me off, and no one at either of my schools career centers told me how to either so I'm just sending of resumes with a "Hey. me want job" gist to them and obvioulsy, that isn't very professional. I am glad I waited for a response to this too, because I just sent off a resume with a cover letter in response to something I'd be pumped to do and I think my cover letter was really kick ass thanks to your advice. I'm excited. Hopefully they respond, because this job is pretty much the exact same job I had before I moved (driving around a delivering magazines around the city), except it seems like it's got a regular salary instead of like x amount of dollars for x amount of stops on my route.

I hope you get the job!!! :cheerleader:

Good luck!

Yup, good luck!

I abo****ely hate stuff like that. Listing your skills and whatnot- I don't know why. It should be fun, writing down what you can do.
