I just re-watched their deleted scene in S3. I admit I much prefer their deleted scene in S1 when they play video games together. I don't like Kirsten telling Ryan to take responsibility for his actions like Marissa does. I feel it's an unfair comparison. Ryan did take responsibility for his actions. In fact, often times he took responsibility for everyone elses' actions too by blaming himself for their problems. I don't think not being enthusiastic about a tutor had anything to do with Ryan not taking responsibility for his actions. I got the impression that he just wanted to go to public school instead of having the Cohens spend money on a tutor. He even told Sandy that.

TC - I don't know, I think she was right to say it. I mean, both Ryan and Marissa had to deal with the consequences of what happened with Trey. Marissa accepted the fact that she'll be going to public school as a result of what happened, Ryan on the other hand, he was ready to give up on himself. And he did. later in the show (maybe it was even in this episode -- I can't remember) he wanted to sail a way and give up everything.

I don't think that holds true for the episode the deleted scene is from though. Ryan said he wanted to go to public school. He didn't want to give up on everything until Dean Hess put a note on his file 2 episodes later that said he was pathologically violent. In S3 episode 3, I never once got the vibe that Ryan was not taking responsibility for his actions.
