For me my top favorite seasons are:
Season 1
Season 4
Season 5

so maybe you'll find some awesome episodes as Ice and BtS in later seasons

The last episode of S2 was great I love learning more about Mulder's characters than just "he's a believer". I'm on S3 now and it's going great

S2E13 "Irresistible" - what would have realistically happened at the end of the episode?

IF THIS POST IS IN THE WRONG AREA PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHERE IT WOULD BE MORE APPROPRIATE. THANKS.

So Irresistible is one of my favorite episodes of all time, and I've read pretty much every post-Irresistible fanfic that's out there. However, far too many of the fics either have no mention of taking Scully to the hospital or have her outright refusing to go to the hospital. Lots of them have Mulder just taking her back to their motel. One of the best and most realistic fanfics out there would have to be "Fine Control", by Jean Robinson. I think it's realistic because Mulder and the local PD are accompanied by an ambulance when they bust down Pfaster's door, and Scully actually collapses as a result of her injuries and adrenaline and is brought to the hospital and rushed into surgery.

So what do you guys think would have realistically happened at the end of the hugging scene? Do you think that she would have been brought to the hospital (wouldn't it be protocol anyway even if she HADN'T been in a car accident, abducted, tied up in a closet, and tumbled down a long flight of stairs?) or do you think that she would have just shaken it all off and gone back to the motel?

Not to mention the fact that Mulder would probably be concerned about her mental state as well as her physical, considering how she was kidnapped and nearly murdered for her fingernails just months after being missing for three months and returned in a freaking coma.

Thoughts on this topic?

Do you have a link to that fanfiction online that you could post in the fanfiction thread? Sounds interesting.

I read a cool fanfic about a third person in a cafe observing Mulder and Scully come in (after the Irresistable incident) and was assuming how Mulder cared about the woman he was with by how she was observing his gestures and looks to her. It was one of my faves.

Mulder seemed to be concerned about her after the abduction. Can’t remember if he still was like that after Irresistible, but he was always protective of her from then on.

I think realistically they would have required? Scully to get checked out at the hospital for injury, but I could see Scully, maybe being embarrassed after a bit from losing it/crying in front of Mulder, would actually shake it off and go to the Motel, acting like she’s ok. She would shake it off, even if they wanted to check on her and, probably claim she’s a doctor and can handle her own bruises.

Thanks for the reply! I've read that fic you mentioned - it's also one of my favorites.

Irresistible is my favorite episode, and as an unashamed shipper*, I won't deny that it's because of the hug at the end. You know what I really love about that hug? Mulder didn't pull her into it. He let her come to him. Although technically she didn't wrap her arms around him until he had already wrapped his around her, she took the first step and buried her face in his coat, which shows so much trust of him on her part. The sweetest part is when she reciprocates the hug, because you can see her actually squeeze him, which indicates just how much she needed him in that moment.

*at this point in the series I don't actually ship them. I believe that they maintained a platonic friendship until season 6, at which point some tension started to creep in. The fact that they were friends for so long before lovers is what makes their relationship the most beautiful one I've ever seen on TV.

Wow, of all the thousands of fanfics out there, I can’t beleive another person knows about what tiny story I read,

Yeah, I liked that hug too. Yeah, she finally trusted him and I love that squeeze she gave him and how he stroked her hair. Ok, I’ll if I carry on too much into fangirling

I never shipped them during the original airings, I was young and enjoyed their banter but really was more into the monster of the week and mystery storylines they investigated.

Wasn’t until last year’s I did a rewatch and I started to ship them as early as Beyond the Sea cause I was noticing how Mulder was touching her and acting concerned for her emotional well being and I just noticed all the subtext and chemistry between them that I was apparently blind to before,

The reason why I refuse to ship them until seasons 6/7 is because their long-lasting friendship prior to their romance is so unique on television and in life. I think that a sexual relationship that blossoms out of a long friendship is special because it means that the relationship isn't based on just sex. Maybe I'm cynical but I feel like the typical relationship is formed with the main goal in mind being regular sex. When two people who have been friends for years decide to have sex it's pretty obvious that sex is an afterthought.

Yes, I liked how they were professional partners and friends for years.

When you remember when it originally aired and there was no streaming or DVD’s, you realize that in reality, watching it once a week, that hug in Irresistible and Scully crying took one and a half years of of our real lives to finally see that moment! it was a slow burn experience cause it took 6 yrs of our lives to get to season 6 and the “I love you” in Triangle!

They couldn’t have sex right away cause they started out as partners though. And Chris Carter intended to keep it that way until DD and GA decided to ship their alter egos cause it was evident enough that there was UST.

I didn’t ship them then either, I was at school during the original airings, and I remember discussing with friends that we thought it would ruin the series if they ever got together. How times change

I wonder if feeling like that depends on being 20 years younger or older when watching the show?

That's funny!

Maybe back then the non shippers were the school age or college age crowd and the shippers were older people with relationship experience and such who would see that stuff more obviously.

I’m in England, and in my hotel bed watching the Flukeman episode that happens to be on tv and I thought the music at the opening credits seemed speeded up perhaps but now I’m watching it and it’s definitely speeded up somehow. Mulder sounds like he’s taken helium and Scully sounds like a very, very young teenage girl with a more baby voice sound too funny 😂

It’s just hard to take Mulder and Scully seriously when he sounds like he’s a 15-17 yr old boy whose voice just changed recently and Scully sounding like a young girl between 11-13.
