Thanks so much for starting this up Cathangel. I agree with you about it being the last great season of the show. There are quite a few memorable moments in this season, but I think what this season lacks is really great episodes that stand out from the rest. Well at least for me. I really enjoy Je Souhaite, Requiem and amazingly The Amazing Maleeni :) but then I find it hard to pick more faves. Episodes like Millenium and All things I like for the noteable shipper scenes but overall I don't take much away from these episodes.

To this day I don't know what I really feel about the episdoes that try to resolve what happened to Mulders sister. I guess I was a little dissapointed with what they came up with. Probably because it was not what I was expecting at all.

I, for one, really loved All Things and not just for the shipper moments. It was a really unique and subtle way to look at Scully's introspection process. Gillian had known the character for a quite a while now and I loved that she dealt with Scully's fear of believing. I also love the talk about moments in time, the choices we make that can be X-Files in themselves. It was a nice change of pace from the usual tones of suspense, horror and comedy. CC can also thank Gillian for setting up the character developments that were to come for Scully. The pregnancy shocker in Requiem makes more sense in how Scully could have gotten pregnant in the first place and how her relationship with Mulder could have have evolved in such a way. It's not with their 'masquerated as a holiday gesture' kiss that we could have had hints of what was to come, so thank All Things for a bit of continuity.

I agree with your last point that's definitely something great that came out of that episode. I guess I always found more Gillian than Scully in that episode. I don't know maybe it was just to much at once. I'm not good with change lol.

Yeah, everyone has different takes on the episode. To me, it really was well done and it stood out of this season.

What were everyone's thoughts on Chimera ? I kinda liked it. :)

Season 7 is the one I've been working through just now on DVD and it is better than I remembered it to be. A few good comedy episodes, some "shipper moments" and the conclusion of both a storyline and a show

I really liked "Millennium", it was great to see that show tied up and of course it has 'that' scene at the end. Strangely enough I had actually watched Millennium before X-Files, not knowing that they were at all connected through Chris Carter so for the conclusion to show up on another show was a pleasant surprise for me at the time

It was also nice to see the Mulder/Samantha storyline wrapped up. Even if I agree with lollies that the outcome was a little disappointing I thought the actual episodes were well done and it was nice for Mulder to have that resolved before David left as a regular cast member That scene in the field with all the spirits of the children and the haunting music is just a beautiful scene.

X-Cops is an incredibely funny and clever episode, First Person Shooter is pretty rubbsih but has always been a favourite. Je Souhaite was also a funny episode as was The Amazing Maleeni and The Goldberg Variation with the brilliant Willie Garson

Oh and the storyline at the start of the season finding the UFO in the Ivory Coast really tapped into my UFO/alien interests and got me into watching the show on a regular basis. The shot of the UFO half-submerged under water and sand is one of my favourite shots ever on the show

Willie Garson has also appeared in season 3's The Walk if you're a big fan of his. I also agree with you that The Amazing Maleeni and The Goldberg Variation were two well done episodes of season seven.

So he was, I have to say I'd completely forgotten. Though he's not a big name actor I've always really liked him in his guest spots on X-Files, Quantum Leap, Boy Meets World, Stargate etc and in There's Something About Mary and I thought he was great in The Goldberg Variation

Cathangel ~ Thank you very much for starting this thread.

I loved season seven for many reasons. It was sortof sad because it was truely the last best season.

So many good episodes, and Scully's transition happened in that season.

I'm one of those people who liked Sixth Extinction II : Amor Fati, among other season seven episodes. It was a good look at Muldet's imaged introspective thought process. Plus, it was shippy (even though the Fowl one made quite an impression, even though I love to hate her, but she got killed off at the end!) and Jerry Hardin made an appearance! Deep Throat was my favourite of all the informants and it's a shame he had to die in the season 1 finale.

I have mixed feelings about Amor Fati. I love it for the Shippy moments but I didn't really enjoy the episode overall and I thought the scene with the aged Mulder was another example of bad make up on the show lol

Cathangel 04-28-2005 01:36 AM

Hihihi...The bad make-up...:D So many memories with this show.

I love All Things too, and not just for the obvious shippyness. I agree that it really gave us more insight into Scully's character.

And in my brain, Season Seven did mark the end of the series. I really didn't watch after that, except to tune in and see how they handled the notable moments (Mulder coming back, the finale). I think season seven ties it all up nicely enough for me.

Cathangel 05-04-2005 12:28 AM

I have a confession to make Gertie: I, too, kinda tuned out after season 7. I only watched the first 3 episodes of season 8, then started watching again around the February sweeps when Mulder came back, then tuned out of season 9 in almost its entirety up until "William" to finally catch the series finale. I've seen parts of reruns of those last two seasons, but I'm gonna sit through them because I truly want to say that I've seen at least once every episode of my favourite TV series of all time.
