Possible Board Closure Discussion: Please Read and Respond!

As a sole moderator here, I’ve been thinking that it may be time to close this board. Our post counts have been declining over the past few months and we have very few regular posters. As you know, Fan Forum requires that we average at least 12 posts per day, with lower numbers than that leading to warnings and then possible closure of the board. We would prefer to go out under our own terms rather than be forced to close due to low post counts.

Please let us know what you think. We'd be glad to hear any suggestions or advice to renew interest here. Remember that to keep the board going, we need the commitment of a few regular, dedicated posters. As much as we love this board, please don't just post to "save" the board and then disappear again, because we'll be in the same position that we're in now if you do.

I actually personally feel it’s not the post counts, it’s the lack of future possible on topic discussion of the show and the low number of X-Files fans on , including the fact that the show is officially over with not much new news to discuss daily.

To be very honest, I think this is too premature. I agree that GA has said she will not participate in a 12th season. But this does not exclude her participation in more singular events like (TV-)movies, or single episodes, imo. CC and DD also never openly said that the X-Files were dead. Quite the opposite is true, imo. So, when it comes to the series itself, I see not enough evidence for terminating this board. Just imagine an XF event happening in couple of years, and we're closed....

Now, when it comes to how many posters frequent this board, this is a different question. I know the FF rules, and I understand that this board needs to close if we don't bring in the required numbers. I can only hope the numbers stay the way they are. I know it's a burden for everyone, since one feels like having to post a lot, just to keep the board open, and one doesn't always have the time for that. But if you ask me, we have no choice. We have to keep going.

I’m not sure what to say, I noticed that even with season 11 there seemed to be very little interest and discussion of the new episodes in comparison to the lengthy episode threads we had with the original revival series with many new posters joining us. I hate to say it, but it feels like season 10 killed a lot of passion for the show, we seem to have even less regular posters now than we did before the show was brought back

I agree with Stewie that I think it would be a shame to lose the board for good though, perhaps we could consider things like group rewatches to try and get more posters talking about the show again? I’m getting the blu rays of season 11 for Xmas, I’d love to take part in some kind of rewatch of that season in January. And we could try and bring in more discussion threads maybe to get everyone talking about the show more? Because I do get what you’re saying, lately it feels a little desperate when it’s only really the OT threads and the other shows you’re watching thread that feel very active, but maybe we could work on that and give it another six months? A regular discussion thread for the show with a new topic every week is one thing that might help with bringing more focus back to the show. Or we could try for a series rewatch to remind us of what we loved about the original episodes? We do have a huge canon to talk about in comparison to most shows

It is a shame how few regular posters we have been left though, I’m not sure what we can do about that. Honestly I think that most people just prefer to reblog on tumblr these days, these kind of message boards with group discussion just don’t seem very in vogue for some reason

I hope everything works out for you guys and somehow the board gets a chance as it's a great show but I just don't have much time to dedicate to the board. I can't imagine this board not being here but being a solo mod to begin with is hard enough not to mention when there are only 2 - 3 posters

Despite that there are aleayithe couples and television words but it's not the same as having a single board dedicated to it

Oh yes, we used to have lots of group rewatches across time zones (Australia, India, Germany, US... honestly don't know how we did it ) a few years back Fantastic idea!

And I also think this board should still have another chance. We had phases in which we barely made the minimum posts (I mean, 14 years without the show being on air) which is not really what is happening ATM, right? Though I agree that there could be more activity. But this board has risen from the dead multiple times.

I love coming here and posting on the XF threads on the television board etc is no alternative for me.

Well, I would tend to continuing until we really can't make it anymore but that's just my opinion...

ETA alternative suggestion to rewatching episodes at the same time: Make for example November Season 1-month

Obviously, I don't know anything about the show, to carry on a conversation with, on the threads. It seems like you guys really care about the show-and hopefully with you thinking of this, more people will post, and talk.

Your September count was quite a bit ahead of Adelaide, and we're the opposite of you, we're not thinking about closing.

Yeah, like I said, it’s not about post counts being the issue, but most of the posts were being made in the OT thread daily and although OT threads are fun, the point of discussion should be the X-Files, of course, and I was noticing the threads directly related to it were sitting stagnant since September so I was wondering about whether we really lost the desire to post after the show has ended and things have been dry. I also don’t have a co-mod to ask about it so I had to put it out there as is this a possibility?

But if the fans here really don’t want it to close, I guess we have to find things to post about and keep the board here. I do have an idea for a Survivor but I’d rather do that in January because November and December are holiday months. And posting is naturally lower these next two months cause of that.

Ahhh, gotcha. That makes a lot of sense. I hope people will come see this, and start talking. I mean everyone here love the show, and characters. Come on peeps! Come talk! Especially you lurkers out there.

That's very true. January will be a good time for Survivor I think. That I could play a part of.

I wish I knew more about the show.

Another idea is that I know a series rewatch is a pretty big undertaking that probably not everyone will be able to get onboard with at the same time, so why don’t we try having a weekly episode rewatch? Just pick out whichever episode we choose, and then have a new thread each week to discuss it? It’s just one episode, so not a huge time commitment, and we could make that a weekly thing maybe?

Just a random episode from any season?

Could be an idea! Im good and familiar with the classic episodes like seasons 1-5 the most! There are some really old discussion threads from years gone by that no one here probably ever discussed.

Just need to know if everyone had a way to watch them. I have them still on Netflix, but not on DVD.

Yep, we could try and pick the episodes that there are more to say about first obviously, and then see how it goes? I think most countries have the episodes on a streaming site, it’s not on Netflix in the U.K., but then we have the complete series on amazon prime.

Like the idea
I'd be on board even though I'm a sucker for chronology

And I can only participate when it's episodes from seasons I own on DVD... maybe a reason to finally buy 9, 10 and hopefully 11 which I couldn't watch yet.

I am too lol, but I know that with rewatches people are generally only enthusiastic at the beginning, then they start falling behind and gradually there are less and less posts. At least with a weekly episode rewatch people should find that easier to keep up with, and it gives us a potential fresh discussion each week

And we can choose whichever episodes, but probably the earlier episodes will be the best ones to go with ETA Perhaps The Post-Modern Prometheus would be an interesting episode to start with as there’s quite a lot to discuss with that one

The X-Files: How To Keep Your Fandom Alive

Thought this was a good place for that article But my suggestion is that we have a news/discussion thread for links like that to go on? Because at the moment I’m never sure where to post articles on discussing the 25th anniversary for example, and so I post them usually in the cast and crew news thread at the moment, even if it doesn’t always fit there. We could have a General News thread pinned to the top of the board, and use that for discussing any updates on the franchise and just talking about articles on the show in general?

Hopefully you guys can get it to work I love the show and would love to post up a storm but so busy as it is I'll post when I can although that sometimes ends up counter productive
