I know it's too late now and we'll never find out because I doubt if Chris Carter can even remember, but, my friends and I have become curious about what might have happened if some of the stories had turned out differently? Like with Babylon 5 - where supposedly - although have a story arc there was a 'trapdoor' so that if any actors left, the story could be re written I was wondering if there one with the X Files?

For example:
If David Duchovny hadn't decided to quit, we've often wondered how the story would have developed. What Mulder have still been abducted at the end of season seven? would Doggett and Reyes still have been introduced? would Scully still have become pregnant at that time? Or would Mulder have stayed the entire series? Would they have developed the storyline about his brain tumour? Or would the powers he had in The Sixth Extinction(which CSM stole)be developed more? Would he have become more central to fighting the war against the aliens and would he have shown more of his powers? Would he and Scully still have had a son or not? We'll never know the answers, but, I've been curious if the storyline would have developed the way it did if DD had stayed or would have been completely different?
Similarly, I've often wonedered what direction the storyline would have taken if they hadn't had to write Gillian Anderson out during her pregnancy - which went on to influence the entire show throughout it's run? Would Scully have still be abducted at that exact time? Would she still have developed cancer, become infertile and then have William? Or would she have been abducted at a later stage or maybe not all all? Would the storyline have focused more on the Samantha storyline we started out which changed completely when Scully was taken?
What does anyone else think?

Thank god for Piper because Gillian's pregnancy was the best thing that happened to the show with her abduction storyline. It is interesting (like with Scully's abduction) how one plot could turn around and direct the show for seasons to come.

I know that Chris Carter had always wanted to do a storyline where Scully got pregnant so I think that would have happened regardless of David leaving/staying.

How about- what if Chris had listened to David and ended the series after season 6 and did a theatrical film of the X-Files every other year instead, like David wanted him to do. We'd probably be getting a new film this year [img]smilies/frown.gif[/img]

Goodness. We all know how much a blessing in disguise Gillian's pregnancy was. What if she never got pregnant? How would the story have developed without the writers creating Scully's abduction?
