MIB / SMOKEY #1: We finally got some answers!
MIB / SMOKEY MIBTechnically this pivotal character does not have an official name, but I went with Esau from the Bible. Esau was Jacob's brother, and it seemed fitting. It can be changed when we officially learn his name and his goals.

I think I read somewhere that the smoke monster would not be answered until the final episodes of season 6.
Makes total sense if you ask me. It was the first REAL mystery of the show. It would make sense for it to be the last mystery of the show solved. It would be a great way to bookend the series by revealing the truth behind the monster in the very final episode. I'm willing to wait the wait...cuz whatever the monster is, I don't think anyone of us wouldve thought. |

theheartstripe - Very interesting, you did your homework. I've thought it was metalic particles controlled by and underground magnetic machine. And yet it seems to have a spiritual nature, maybe connected to God in some way.

The Man in Black [Esau] #1: "Do you have any idea how badly I want to kill you?"
Welcome to the The Man in Black Thread. [ Technically this pivotal character does not have an official name, but I went with Esau from the Bible. Esau was Jacob's brother, and it seemed fitting. It can be changed when we officially learn his name and his goals. What we do know is that he is the opposite of Jacob, we don't know which is good or which is evil although Jacob was in white and he was in black. He hated Jacob with a passion and wanted his death. He does not want humans on his island... and for Season 5 he's been going around appearing as John Locke. Everything John Locke did, it was Esau. And the last thing he did was persuade Ben to finally kill Jacob (or did he) while he throw him into a fire. He's obviously a key player in all the event that have happened on his Island. Discuss all about Esau, speculation is welcome. - Jacob's Enemy - Esau [The Bible] And as John Locke Elsewhere: Intro Clip End Reveal Clip Esau/Jacob Transcript Jacob Thread Caps from Lost-media.com __________________

It was a total shocker for me to see him as a John.

See what I liked about Jacob/Esau is that they both appeared that their goals could be viewed as either good or evil... If you think of it, Esau wants the people off the island and Jacob is the one bringing them to the island. It's so complex, I love it. Although if the shirts say anything then Esau is likely the evil one.. or not Locke/Jack continuously switched sides. I'm okay with him being "The Villain", I love a good villain!! Quote:

I am starting to think the smoke monster is the fake locke...I mean he transformed into Yemi..even Alex, I think this is Jacob's nemesis. I also think that this nemesis, was turned into a smoke monster by Jacob as a punishment or the guy at the beginning found a loophole ...to be the smoke monster in killing him
Duudes..I found this site http://www.donaldislost.com/ it has this amazing blog entry about the connections about the statue and egyption mythology __________________

If you think of the Egyptian myths and the island... Jacob was living under the Statue of Taweret on the shore. Esau probably lived in the Temple in the inner part of the island, where the smoke monster came from until he abandoned it. Explains why the smoke monster does what it wants and the Temple's condition is in a poor state. Also, the hieroglyphs show that it is Anubis that controls the smoke monster. (or I think it's Anubis). I think Smokey might be Esau's pet or guardian. __________________

Yeah, I was debating it too but if Esau does not transform into "Smokey" at will then he's definitely connected to it somehow.
Technically, it looks like he's going to be the "big bad" and I really like Jacob and will side with him in that event; however, I'm very interested in finding out what this character has up it's sleeve. Although, I suspect that Terry O'Quinn will be playing him from here on out? Hope the show doesn't disappoint us and Darlton give us some answers. __________________
