Viggo Mortensen - Kisses

There's something that bothers me so much about Return of the King that it makes me want to start a whole thread dedicated to the subject.

I think Arwen and Aragorn's kiss at the end of the movie is lackluster and blah. I don't think it's the fact that I would've prefered Aragorn/Eowyn at all, it's just so... blah!

Then there's 28 Days... It's a great kiss, even though it's quick and awkward. In A Walk on the Moon, well, I think it's pretty redudant to say how great Walker/Pearl kisses were and so on.

So, I'm lead to believe that Liv Tyler was my problem with Arwen and Aragorn's kiss! She seems cold and uninterested throughout which kills the whole moment of the coronation because of her anti-climatic response to him.

I opened a new thread because I thought this could be a place to discuss kisses in all of VM's films, the ones we have seen anyway. But I decided to single out ROTK first because it bothers me so much.

Anyway...

Really? I liked the ROTK kiss... I think because he just jumped her...mouth open and all!

So I just imagine since his mouth was open so wide, what he was doing.

Honestly, I really think it has to do with the fact that you really like A/E.

A lot of my friends who aren't into this whole shipping thing really thought that Arwen's love for him really came through with her acceptance of Aragorn's kiss in ROTK. Remember, Arwen's an elf. She can't act as if she's a woman in heat even if she does love this man so much. Remember she did give up immortality for him.

I don't see it. I know the kiss we get is the one that was filmed the second time around so maybe that's it. But as far as epic kisses goes, this one doesn't tip any scales. In my book that is.

Well, it's true that if you don't like a couple, you wouldn't think any kiss is epic. Lets say Titanic for example. Lots of people say that their love with epic and I thought it was so so. I was more into the whole ship than the love story.

Well, I think it's just a difference of opinion. Plus, I think alot of the A/A fans took alot of bashing in regards to that kiss so they are pretty much not going to believe anyone who is an A/E fan to be objective.

That's just it.

In any case, I like the way Viggo kisses all around and it doesn't matter who he is kissing...woman, kid, horse.

I liked the RotK kiss because you weren't really expecting it. Not even Arwen was expecting it! It's this big formal ceremony, where everyone's meant to be on their best bahaviour, and then he just grabs her and plants one on her and nearly knocks her off her feet in the process. So romantic.

I see Arwen's reaction as, "OMG, so wasn't expecting this...and in front of everyone....including my dad....how embarassing.....oh screw it I'm just too happy to care.....c'mere big boy!"

I do agree with you when you say it's redundant to mention how great the Pearl/Walker kisses were. That really does go without saying.

Well, it's was surprising. Aragorn has always been a private guy and whenever they showed romantic feelings towards each other, it was always when the two of them were alone together. So this big production was going on and she bows to him because he's the king. The fact that he raised her chin to look at her, trying to feel that she was really alive and planted a kiss on her. She was not expecting that at all. Then she melts in. Just like you said.
