I don't think it mattered, tbh. Never added anything to the show, and Lucas had other neglected friendships that had far more potential.

Would say it did in the early episodes of the show considering Jake was the only one who had Luke's back when he first joined the Ravens.

That was kind of a nothing storyline though, barely got much time and went nowhere.

That's true, think the direction for a few things changed once the show decided to go in NH/BLP love triangle route.

Think NLP would have been not as messy since they wouldn't have basically make things up as went along like they did with BPL.

Even that wasn't so necessary though. Although they did need to explore the complexities of the fact that Peyton was Lucas' brother's ex.

That's true, but I still would have probably stuck with the triangle for a few more episodes. Definitely couldn't have dragged it out for too long
