“Why do you keep giving me a menu?” he smirked at her shaking his head, totally ignoring her question. “I’ve been coming in here twice a week minimum for almost a year now – way more than that during the summer - and you still give me a menu. I’ve never been accused of being the brightest bulb in the box…but I think I have the thing memorized Haley. Besides – I order the same thing every time. Which is….?” he asked with a fake smile.

“Oatmeal, two slices of raisin toast, half a grapefruit and a cream cheese danish,” she returned with a slight sigh. “You know Nathan, that’s a very healthy breakfast – except for the danish – why do you ruin your healthy eating with a danish?” she questioned while she scribbled out his order handing the menu slip over the counter to Sam the morning cook.

“Hey Nathan,” Sam called from the kitchen without even lifting his head to see who the order belonged to.

“Sam…how’s the wife?” Nathan returned sipping at his coffee.

“Still there,” Sam mumbled just loud enough for Nathan to hear. Same question…same answer.

“You do realize how pathetic it is that Sam knows that’s your order without even looking up to see you don’t you?” she grumbled at him watching as he dug into his danish.

“Maybe I’ll have a second danish today,” he smiled at her, licking at the remaining icing on his fork like a five year old - Haley rolled her eyes at him with a small frown. “Okay…maybe not. You know Karen might not like it if she knew you were cutting into her sales by not giving the customers what they want.”

“What’s that…flabby guts?” she quipped with another false smile.

“Hey…my gut's not flabby,” he complained standing quickly lifting up his t-shirt to expose his rippled stomach. “See?” he grinned.

“Whatever…put your shirt down - you’re scaring the other customers,” trying to sound annoyed, waving a dismissive hand at him while biting her lip to keep from laughing at his silly antics.
