7.01 - Driven

“Driven” – In the Season 6 finale, as Richard Castle drove to his much-anticipated nuptials, an ominous black SUV bore down on him. Meanwhile, after waiting in vain for Castle to arrive at the wedding, Beckett was called to an accident scene to find Castle’s car in a ravine, engulfed in flames. Who or what caused the car crash? Is there any way Castle could have survived? The episode will pick-up at the scene of that accident, right where the finale left off, in a premiere that promises to put Beckett through the toughest case of her career.

Captain Gates won't be returning for the new season. The actress has been let go from the show.

Some are speculating that means Beckett might be taking over as Captain since she was going for the Captain's exam!

I don't know how! Unless they break them up which I doubt given how pissed off the fandom was over the botched wedding. They are together, married. And even if now that Gates is gone. If Beckett is promoted to Captain which prevents her from going out in the field as much so it's a all Guys detective team or Alexis ends up becoming a cop and teams with Dad. I could see that pissing off a fandom. But I am sure Beckett will be breaking how it's been done and will find herself in the field before long...

I just don't see it belonging to Castle. Some are wondering if its something like Once Upon a Time due to the "shaken and stirred" line in describing the crisis. One of the actors may be in consideration as the next Bond. According to rumors...
