I'm pretty sure Diane just wants to fire everyone. "Cary, you're fired for trying to start your own firm. Kalinda, you're fired for plotting with him. Will, you're fired for screwing around with coworkers. Alicia, you're fired for both of these reasons. David Lee, I just hate you. Secretaries and assistants, you're out too. Everyone, just GTFO."

Here's how I imagine the conversation went between the Kings and Jules regarding "the twist." Since I want to be nice to Kiki, who is in for a bitter and painful disappointment next week, I'll assume for the sake of tidiness in this dialogue that "the Kings" means "Robert."
*** Robert: Hey, Jules, can I talk to you for a minute? JM (channelling Alicia): Yes? Robert: So, is it cool with you if we end the season by writing you more or less out of character and making it look as if Alicia can't hold a thought in her head from one week to the next? JM: Uhhh . . . Robert (hurriedly): Wait! You'll get to kiss Peter! A lot! And Will, too! You can even tear up about how much you love both of them. It's Emmy gold! JM (confused): Did Standards and Practices finally sign off on that threesome episode? Robert (sighing): Not yet. We're working on it. JM: If I say yes, I have some demands that you'll need to meet. Robert (side-eyes her nervously): Yes? JM: I'm really getting sick and tired of how much everyone LOVES Kalinda. Why does she get to be the "sexy one" on the show, anyway? She's only five years younger than I am! Robert (confused): Do you want us to dress Kalinda in flannel and workboots for a couple of episodes? JM (savors the thought, then shakes her head): What I really want is for you just never to have Alicia and Kalinda in the same room at the same time. If the audience never sees them together, the sexy problem disappears. Robert (panicking): But . . . but . . . Alicia and Kalinda are the show's core relationship! People like to hear them talking to each other! JM (firmly): Hey, if you want to resurrect the love triangle in the last few episodes out of nowhere, those are my terms.
