Riverdale Spoilers & Speculations Thread

Things aren’t always what you expect in Riverdale. Based on the iconic characters from Archie Comics and produced by Berlanti Productions (The Flash, Supergirl, Blindspot, Everwood), this one-hour drama is a bold, subversive take on the surreality of small-town life. As a new school year begins, the town of Riverdale is reeling from the recent, tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom — and nothing feels the same. Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) is still the all-American teen, but the summer’s events made him realize that he wants to pursue a career in music — and not follow in his dad’s footsteps — despite the sudden end of his forbidden relationship with Riverdale’s young music teacher, Ms. Grundy (Sarah Habel). Which means Archie doesn’t have anyone who will mentor him — certainly not singer Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), who is only focused on her band, the soon-to-be-world-famous Pussycats. It’s all weighing heavily on Archie’s mind — as is his fractured friendship with budding writer and fellow classmate Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). Meanwhile, girl-next-door Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) is anxious to see her crush, Archie, after being away all summer, but she’s not quite ready to reveal her true feelings to him. And Betty’s nerves — which are hardly soothed by her overbearing mother, Alice (Mädchen Amick) — aren’t the only thing holding her back. When a new student, Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), arrives in town from New York with her mother Hermione (Marisol Nichols), there’s an undeniable spark between she and Archie, even though Veronica doesn’t want to risk her new friendship with Betty by making a play for Archie. And then there’s Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) — Riverdale’s Queen Bee is happy to stir up trouble amongst Archie, Betty, and Veronica, but Cheryl is keeping secrets of her own. What, exactly, is she hiding about the mysterious death of her twin brother, Jason? Riverdale may look like a quiet, sleepy town, but there are dangers in the shadows. Riverdale is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Blindspot), Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Supergirl, Glee), Sarah Schechter (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Blindspot) and Jon Goldwater (Archie Comics). Riverdale premieres midseason on The CW.

I don't know the reliability of that spoiler, but I'm not sure it makes sense to me.

If he liked Veronica, why would he 'pick' Betty. That suggests that it's his choice and could be with Veronica if he wanted.
Also from what I've seen of interviews (granted, little) it doesn't seem like Archie and Betty really happen this season.

“ I think Archie feels a little bit of possessiveness towards Betty just because she is his childhood best friend, and he kind of thinks of her as… not as like an older brother, but he’s just very protective of her. And I think, you know, when you have someone that has been in your life for a long time that suddenly has a love interest, or something, you get a little jealous. Just because that person is being shared with other people now and so I think that’s kind of what it is. It’s mostly just– You know, when your best friend starts to have a love interest or pursue other people, there’s a bit of possessiveness there, but I think that’s all it is. ”

yas! love this. She knows how the season plays out so I'd like to believe that she hit the nail on the head and its not a romantic jealousy but a friend jealous.

Jugheads birthday? IS he turning 17 then? So they are juniors?

You're welcome everyone :)

Archie and Betty will slowly progress into a relationship during Season 2 or end of it, depending how many episodes they order.

Not sure of Jughead's age.

I think my biggest problem with BA is that they have basically made Archie seem like he has friendzoned Betty and she is in the process of moving on.

jediwands 03-19-2017 06:43 AM

TFTNT.

I feel like Archie had his head in the clouds when he rejected Betty in The Pilot/1.2. He rambled to Veronica about her and how she asked him to marry her when they were little. The story was interesting because it seemed like Archie was in denial and really did have romantic feelings for Betty but couldn't fully see it himself just yet. He was essentially talking around it but something was there.

I think AB are happening but not in season 1. I have no idea what that spoiler is all about with Archie picking Betty but liking Veronica though. I have a feeling it's in a passive way and not a mutual decision. Even if Betty's still in love with Archie, it's not in character for Betty to drop and hurt Jughead to be with him. At most, Betty will end up confused. To be honest, I've seen the set up for Archie/Veronica way more than Archie/Betty, so far at least.

So who knows what's going to happen. I am not a diehard shipper either way. I like Betty/Jughead but would be open to Betty/Archie IF the writing is convincing. Looking forward to seeing where all of this goes.

Yeah I think she would know I also don't see Betty and Jughead ending this season especially after both the actors said people would be surprised by how deep their relationship is . I really feel that if Bughead keeps getting more fans and more popular that the show will either keep them together or make sure the triangle plays out fast especially since it didn't sound like that was going to be the focus of the show anyway and put Bughead together again .

Which does seem likely, it just makes the spoiler more confusing. If Archie is acknowledging feelings towards Betty without acting, then his 'picking' her presumably means that he feels the most for her, but the rest of the spoiler seems to imply that he feels more for Veronica, or only for Veronica.

I don't know, it feels like a fake spoiler.

Exactly. I guess it could mean deep down he finally realizes on a conscious level he has romantic feelings for Betty. However, he does like Veronica too and feels being with her stands a better chance in the present. But that still makes zero sense since he picks Betty according to the spoiler, lol. It's just all so confusing.

It does seem like a fake spoiler.

I think it's a fake spoiler too because it looks like Betty and Jughead are still together in the season finale and I really don't see Betty ending things with Jughead and getting with Archie in one episode especially after everything that was said about Bughead I don't see them ending anytime soon . And since from what I heard before the show started the BAV triangle is not really the focus of the show I can see them pairing Archie with Veronica before they pair him with Betty that is if they ever pair him with Betty .

Someone on reddit is saying that the killer was leaked on twitter. Does anyone here have any info about it? I definitely don't want to know who it is, but I would like to know if I should start avoiding spoilery places or if it's just someone looking for attention  A lot of stuff/scenes were leaked, but this would be a huge fail if the main mystery got revealed 5 episodes sooner.

Jughead is turning 16. Someone on Reddit posted screenshots of his school and juvie record and his birthday is 10/02/01. So Happy Sweet 16, Juggie! I'm sure it will be completely drama free, lol.

I think it's fake as well. There are filming photos from the finale where Bughead are strolling arm in arm looking pretty happy at the Riverdale Jubilee. I just don't think we'd get from that to Archie and Betty choosing to be together by the end of the same episode. I also agree with those who say the show has been putting way much more effort into setting up Archie and Veronica at this point. If BA does happen eventually, I agree it will be in a later season. I'm actually quite excited to follow the Bughead relationship and see how it develops for the rest of this season.

ETA: I found this spoilery description that is supposed to happen late this season:

Quote:

It’s a gray autumn day in a bleak suburb of Vancouver, where the reedy 43-year-old writer/producer is dropping by the set of Riverdale, his eerie, modernized, television take on the Archie Comics mythos. In the show, the foursome sets out to solve the murder of one of their classmates. Late in the first season, Archie — for reasons that I’ll leave unsaid — finds himself holding someone else’s knife. This afternoon, the prop master is presenting the bespectacled showrunner with two blade options and recommending the smaller one.

“Once it’s in the neck, you could even, maybe, have it not all the way in,” the prop master suggests. There’s a yet-more-macabre reason to go with the smaller option, according to the prop master: “I think the makeup people will have a hard time hiding the big one and getting that body into the barrel.”

“Yeah, no, I agree,” Aguirre-Sacasa says, nodding enthusiastically. “Smaller is better. I like that.”

Knives in necks? Bodies in barrels? What on Earth has happened to our dear Archiekins?

I think the show is set in fall 2016, though... so he might only be turning 15???

I don't believe spoilers that don't have some sort of receipts to back them up. The one about Archie choosing Betty in the finale came from some unverifiable source on a message board, right? No pics, no proof. The whole post sounded like speculation based on footage and pics that had already leaked.

Anyway, even if Archie wakes up and decides he loves Betty, I don't think he'll be the reason Bughead break up, *if* they even break up this season, which may or may not happen at the end of the finale (I'm hoping not, of course). I'm guessing A's feelings will be played as a cliffhanger for season 2 and give us something to volley back and forth about over the looooong hiatus. Will they/will he, etc, etc.

Alexa 03-19-2017 10:53 PM

why do you say its set in 2016?

And how would Archie "choose" when really it would Betty choosing?

I'm hoping he somehow ends with Veronica at the end of the season after what KJ said.
