TYRANT S&S #1 "A country. A family. On the brink of revolution." ~*~ NEW FX Series ~*~

Spoilers & Speculations
Season 3 on FX starts SEASON PREMIERE Wednesday, July 06 | 10PM

For Barry, he posited, it's also a question of accepting "his destiny that he can perhaps naively navigate this parallel situation," with the central question of the series being "What does it mean to be a good man?"

FX Homepage || FaceBook || Twitter: @TyrantFX

Tyrant comes from Howard Gordon (24, Homeland) and Gideon Raff (Homeland):
Tyrant tells the story of an unassuming American family drawn into the inner workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation.

Bassam "Barry" Al-Fayeed (Adam Rayner), the youngest son of a war-torn country's controversial dictator, returns to his homeland after a self-imposed 20-year exile in America for his nephew's wedding. Upon his return, Barry is immediately thrown back into the familial and national politics of his youth. He braces himself to confront the stark realities of his father and older brother Jamal's (Ashraf Barhom) harsh rule, and finds himself at odds with Jamal's wife, Leila (Moran Atias), who strongly believes in a firm, unforgiving regime.

Although his wife, Molly (Jennifer Finnigan), struggles to comprehend her husband's apprehension, Barry is unable and unwilling to make his all-American family understand his unease over returning home. Emma (Anne Winters), their 17-year-old daughter, adores her father and shares his disdain for the extravagances of her extended family.

Meanwhile, their son, 16-year-old Sammy (Noah Silver), revels in the lavish lifestyle their "royal" status brings, but dangerously tests cultural divides with his poorly disguised interest in handsome family bodyguard Abdul (Mehdi Dehbi). Barry's only warm memory of his childhood, boyhood friend Fauzi (Fares Fares), wants nothing to do with him. Fauzi is now a journalist, whose reports on the abuses of the Al-Fayeed rule resulted in his arrest and torture.

Barry must now confront the life he once fled. With his father's health in decline, everyone – Jamal, their mother Amira (Alice Krige), their father's top advisor Yussef (Salim Daw), and even easygoing U.S. diplomat John Tucker (Justin Kirk) – expects him to assume a more active role in both the family and the regime.

CAST
Adam Raynor as "Barry Al-Fayeed - An American pediatrician, Barry lives in Pasadena, California with his wife Molly and their two children, high-schoolers Emma and Sammy. Unbeknownst to anyone but his immediate family, Barry is the son of a despised Middle Eastern dictator. After a self-imposed 20-year exile in America, Barry finally agrees to return to his homeland of Abbudin for his nephew's wedding.

Jennifer Finnigan as "Molly Al-Fayeed" - Barry's wife and the mother of Sammy and Emma. Molly is a strong, smart, pragmatic, and loving woman. A successful internist, Molly is excited at the prospect of the family visiting Abbudin, and looks forward to finally meeting her in-laws.

Ashraf Barhom as "Jamal Al-Fayeed" - Barry's older brother and the next-in-line for the Presidency.

Moran Atias as "Leila Al-Fayeed" - Jamal's stunning wife with laser sharp intellect. She is a formidable match for her husband, and has her own strong ideas about how Abbudin should be ruled.

Noah Silver as "Sammy" – Barry and Molly's 16-year-old son.

Anne Winters as "Emma" - a smart and well-read 11th grader who is very apprehensive about going to Abbudin for the family wedding. She is well aware of the nation's violent history and uncomfortable with her family's role in it.

Fares Fares

Salim Daw as "Yussef" - the longtime top political advisor to the President of Abbudin.

Justin Kirk as "John Tucker" - a vaguely debonair bureaucrat with the American Embassy in Abbudin.

Mehdi Dehbi as “Abdul” - a young, handsome man from Abbudin who comes from a long line of men who have proudly served as security for the Al-Fayeed family.

Alice Maud Krige as "Amira" - The matriarch of the Al-Fayeed clan, Amira is the first lady of Abbudin with a strong sense of control over her family and their position as rulers of the country.

Yes. The family is American, and the dad is the 2nd son of the ruler of a fictitious Middle Eastern country. He is returning to his home country after 20 years, with his American family in tow, to attend his nephew's wedding.

Created by the the Producers of "Homeland".

Thank you! I didn't get a chance to catch it but hopefully they'll air the pilot again.

Wow! Intriguing. The final Barry flashback was not what I expecting, but the consequence of events on the family was completely where the story needed to go. I felt the anxiety of him trying to get back to LA and was tense the entire airplane scene.

I need a moment to gather my thoughts. Fantastic actors and character portrayals.

Has anyone heard of any spoilers about the show delving more into the Leila and Barry relationship?
