Gossip Girl S&S #2272: It's Cotillion time on the UES
|
Thanks for the new thread. :) I’ve always found Lily to be an incredibly contradictory character. On the one hand, she’s a greedy gold-digger who wanted wealth and power, and she was a horrible mother to Serena and Eric, but Rufus brought out her kind and caring side, and she’s been a wonderful stepmother and friend to Chuck. I agree that she originally lost Rufus because she caved to her mother’s wishes, and I think she spent a good part of her life trying to please her mother, only to be slapped in the face by Cece when she left her estate to Ivy, so now she’s closed off the part of her that’s kind and caring and, in effect, she’s become Cece, and at the moment all she cares about is wealth and power.

tftnt
Hopefully it won't take a cancer scare to wake her the eff up. |
I don't think Serena has ever been anything like Lily. Out of the younger characters, I've always found Blair to be the most like Lily. Blair cares way more about status and power. Lily can be that way, as well.
However, when Lily and Blair are around Rufus and Dan I found them more likeable. They just become normal people, and they don't care as much about status. |
They really took their Rufly/Dair parallel a bit too far.

I just could not hate cece after S2. She was just so damned funny. She entertained the **** out of me and I had more sympathy for CeCe then for Lily in that flashback episode.

At least Cece in her elder years had a heart and Lily seemed to loose that. Plus Cece did seem to leave Lily with some money and many objects. I think it was her trying to be a matriach after Cece died and being betrayed by her sister.
I do think every couple has been compared to RL. However, I think in the finale they tried to show that if your name is Humphrey you will always finish second to a Bass man. |

I guess I see all the kids as potentially being younger versions of their parents. They can either fall into the same traps as the older generation, and therefore have history repeat itself. Or, they can purposely choose a different path, and rebel against becoming their parents.
Lily is very much CeCe right now. Serena isn't Lily, but she easily could have been (and maybe she is, with Steven?). Dan avoided being Rufus in relationships Blair wishes she were Eleanor Chuck isn't sure if he wants to be Bart (probably not) Nate definitely doesn't want to be the Captain or his grandfather; he has always tried to get away from that. |
TFTNT!

I know we're supposed to hate elanor, but seriously I just look at her and feel sorry for her because she has an irritating petulant child. Serena to me just needs to stop running from guy to guy, but atleast it makes sense since she never seemed to get her father's love and daddy issues don't magically go away. You just try to deal with them.
i prefer to Bart to Chuck mostly cause he makes me lol Nate is his mother lbr. |
