In 7.04 L/L will have been broken up for around 4-6 months. I think it's acceptable that Lorelai is genuinely trying to move on by then.

It's four months at most I think. 7.05 has Hallowe'en decorations. L/L broke up at the end of May. June-September = 4 months.

I couldn't give a crap about Lorelai's journey. This is bull****. No way that Lorelai doesn't know the town is going to hear about it. Babette will surely notice a bright red Mustang in Lorelai's yard all night.
