Rachel Bilson leads a stellar ensemble cast in this fish-out-of-water comedic drama about small-town living, big city attitudes and complicated love triangles. After three years, Dr. Zoe Hart (Rachel Bilson) is starting to feel at home in BlueBell, Alabama, and still continues to shake up life in this small town. Though they are no longer a couple, Zoe still finds herself drawn to bad boy Wade Kinsella (Wilson Bethel), and she and Wade continue to be friends with George Tucker (Scott Porter), who is still trying to figure his love life. Lemon Breeland (Jaime King) continues to pursue her dream of being a business owner, while always on the lookout for her true love. Zoe’s best friend and landlord, Mayor Lavon Hayes (Cress Williams), is determined to keep BlueBell the quaint town everyone has come to love, while AnnaBeth (Kaitlyn Black) has come into her own by co-running the local women’s social club, the Belles. After her difficult return to their shared medical practice, Zoe’s personal and professional relationship with Dr. Brick Breeland (Tim Matheson) seems to have gotten to a better place. Zoe’s love life is still a mess, and she’s not sure what the future holds in store for her, but we know it will be juicy and full of fun.

ON THE RIGHT TRACK — After weeks of going back and forth with their relationship problems, Zoe (Rachel Bilson) and Wade (Wilson Bethel) finally start making progress. Lemon (Jaime King) reminisces about her high school days and enlists Annabeth (Kaitlyn Black) and Crickett (guest star Brandi Burkhardt) to crash George’s (Scott Porter) parents’ lake house. While rescuing the girls from their fun night, George and Lavon (Cress Williams) make drastic decisions regarding their love lives. Tim Matheson also stars.

WHODUNNIT? — When Lavon (Cress Williams) hears of Lemon’s (Jaime King) financial woes, he organizes a BlueBell talent show, giving the townspeople, including Lemon, a chance to win some extra money. However, with the contestants feeling intimidated by Shelby’s (guest star Laura Bell Bundy) participation, her sudden illness before her performance becomes a mystery the entire town tries to solve. Meanwhile, Zoe (Rachel Bilson) and Wade (Wilson Bethel) find themselves in a compromising situation that would require them to reveal their current relationship status.

  It's packed! There is so much happening; the stakes are higher; there's a lot more in terms of story and in terms of life events. But it's all still in the Bluebell flavor, so there's a lot of singing and a lot of crazy townspeople doing their thing. I think it's our best season. [The season premiere deals with] a firefighter test. Episode three [has] a trip to New York City. Episode four, there's a big town talent show. We find that there's some surprise talent in Bluebell that actually carries on throughout the season; we find some unlikely stars in [town]! There are multiple proposals this year. There's a hoedown; there's a food truck war; we finally find out all of Tom Long's jobs. Tom and Wanda will have their baby this season. [x]
• Did you approach any of these stories as if the end of the season would be the end of the series?
  This season is for the fans, and they are going to love it. This is a season all the central questions, love stories and storylines do get wrapped up in a celebratory way, but there are still doors open. [x]
• "Annabeth also doesn't know how Lavon feels about Lemon, and this is something that everyone is going to try to keep from Annabeth for as long as possible to protect her," Gerstein said. "But Annabeth has a lot going on for her this season, and by the end of this season she'll be working towards reinventing herself. She will find a new career and new love." [x]

• The episodes that follow the premiere will see news spread around Bluebell fairly steadily — "some people find out early, some find out much later," says Gerstein — but that everyone's reactions will be surprising.

• Coming Up: "This is a season for the fans and we are building toward what will be an amazing, celebratory resolution," executive producer Leila Gerstein says of the truncated, 10-episode season many are speculating to be the romantic comedy's last. Star Wilson Bethel expounds on that: "It's a jam-packed season and by the end of it, it feels like a really nice bow is put on a lot of those relationships," he says. "By the last episode of this season, it's a pretty joyous affair."

Wilson Bethel has joined the cast of ABC's The Astronaut Wives Club as Scott Carpenter, the husband of Rene Carpenter played by Yvonne Strahovski. Because Astronaut Wives Club is a 10-episode limited series, with Bethel expected to appear in eight, and Hart Of Dixie has a 10-episode order, Bethel can successfully juggle both regular roles, filming the ABC drama while the CW series is on hiatus.
A CW rep contacted TV.com in response to an article they wrote speculating on HoD's future and said, "no decision has been made regarding the future of Hart of Dixie, so any discussion or reporting of whether or not the show will continue beyond the upcoming season is premature."
