Jane the Virgin S&S #3: "A hug from Rogelio is like a rabbit's foot. lucky, rare and soft to the touch" ~Rogelio
 Jane is a religious young Latina who is a waitress in a hotel in Miami. Her life takes a big turn for the unexpected when her doctor (Dr. Luisa Alver) mistakenly artificially inseminates her during her checkup. Jane's mother Xiomara, who became pregnant with Jane at a very young age, is scared that Jane will be destroying her life by deciding to bring the baby to full term, while Jane's traditional religious Latina grandmother, Alba, encourages Jane to do what she chooses. The biological father is a married man named Rafeal Solao, who is a cancer survivor and a former playboy. He is the new owner of the hotel where Jane works, and was her former teenage crush. Petra, Rafael's amoral and scheming wife, learns of the mistake and plots her own agenda. Petra is also involved in an affair with Roman Zazo, Rafael's best friend, who is under investigation by Jane's police detective boyfriend, Michael, and who also deals with Jane's unexpected condition in his own way. Meanwhile, the doctor who inseminated Jane, Dr. Luisa Alver, who is Rafael's younger sister, is distraught over learning that her wife cheated on hear and left her. Elsewhere, Rogelio de la Vega, a famous TV star and, unbeknownst to her, Jane's biological father, shows up to wanting to make contact with Xiomara, unaware of Jane's existence. “Chapter Twenty-Eight” — (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET) (Content Rating TBD) (HDTV) DETERMINATION – Jane (Gina Rodriguez) and Rafael (Justin Baldoni) begin estate planning for Mateo, but when Jane realizes that Mateo will inherit millions, she worries he will become spoiled. Jane is also finally starting graduate school, but her professor (guest star Adam Rodriguez) is not sympathetic to her situation. Rogelio’s (Jaime Camil) famous show is ending, so he decides to create his own show, with Xo’s (Andrea Navedo) encouragement. Petra (Yael Grobglas) is shocked to learn what she is having and turns to Jane for advice and help in getting her mother out of prison. Meanwhile, after Michael’s (Brett Dier) issues at work, he has decided to go rogue and is even more determined to catch Sin Rostro. Ivonne Coll also stars. Melanie Mayron directed the episode written by Corinne Brinkerhoff and Micah Schraft (#206). Original airdate 11/16/2015. Upcoming Episodes "Chapter Twenty-Nine" MAKING THE EFFORT – Jane (Gina Rodriguez) and Rafael (Justin Baldoni) interview potential babysitters to help take some of the pressure off everyone, but Jane has specific and lengthy requirements. Jane attends her graduate school’s Christmas party in hopes of finding the perfect writing advisor, but things don’t go quite as planned. Rogelio (Jaime Camil) is faced with a tough decision about the direction of his life. Petra (Yael Grobglas) wants a friendship with Jane, but her mother’s antics once again thwart those efforts. Meanwhile, Michael’s (Brett Dier) suspicions have turned out to be true and he thinks he has discovered a lead on a possible rival to Sin Rostro. Andrea Navedo and Ivonne Coll also star. Speaking of that description in the OP, why did I think that Rafael already had joint custody? I thought that had been agreed upon last season?
It is extremely strange to me that Jane would be allowed to pursue sole custody...she doesn't really have any merit for Rafael to not have joint custody privileges? __________________

I think the shipper war has already started rme. I never really agreed with her reasons for wanting to block rafael from sole custody. Wanting to work to provide for your family is not a crime. __________________

What were Jane's reasons even? That Rafael is rich?
 The thing is, I thought they had come to the understanding that they were going to have joint custody. I feel like this is a discrepancy on the writers part tbh, unless I'm forgetting something. Discussing what the last name should be is VERY different than having joint custody. __________________

Jane has also already threatened to not let their child live/visit Rafael as long as he lived in the hotel where Petra lived. They resolved that but I'm sure it won't be their only parenting conflict. What happens when holidays come around? Knowing Jane, she's not going to want to give up Mateo for any one of them. Most parents don't. Not doing it officially could make things feel a bit more flexible (although there is always flexibility even with official agreements) while doing it officially can lead to avoiding potential problems in the future.
