Gossip Girl S&S #2445: How Low Can The Ratings Go?

welcome to the gossip girl spoiler and speculation thread;

Feel free to post about any upcoming story-line and discuss it with the other people in here. We urge you to not bash the actors nor the users because it's not allowed by the rules, but anything else with a good argument is welcomed.

Effective immediately, the Spoilers board moderators reserve the right to temporarily close any thread that does not heed four official warnings given on any issue. This means that, if the Spoilers Board Moderators have to come in with four official warnings about any issue whatsoever, within 24 hours or so, then that particular thread will be temporarily closed. The duration of closure is subject to the Spoilers Board Moderators' discretion. Upon re-opening of the temporarily closed thread, said thread will be closed again if any warnings are given within 24-48 hours of the reopening. Lastly, if numerous warnings need to be given over the course of a week, and the moderators suspect an attempt to get around the "four warnings" rule to avoid closure, we reserve the right to temporarily close the thread.

Do not discuss any information from any illegally obtained copies of copyrighted scripts. These scripts are not public information and they are copyrighted, so please do not post any script excerpts or mention any information that might be found in these scripts. If people persist with posting any information from these scripts or if they mention the scripts at all, this thread can and will be shut down.

ATTENTION ALL GOSSIP GIRL FANS: From now on, please do not post any picspams or repeated spoiler images - regardless of who is in them. It takes up space and offends certain members/fanbases. When we get new pictures, post a few of them once, then link the rest. They will be added to our photobucket in the OP (editor's note: lol uh, about that...) and can be accessed there from then on.

Thanks for the new thread Jerry, Love the title. Unfortunately the ratings have stagnated, much like the show itself.

I'm trying to figure out what makes Serena "disgusted."
Considering he was already honest about her in the first book, I'd be interested to know too.

I dont think he is playing her at all. Speculation is rife about that but there's no proof. I think that Dan has allready written the bad article about her...before they got back together. Someone finds it and releases it. I dont think Dan playing Serena is a huge possibility at all at this point.

I really hope that Dan isn't just playing Serena. That would be total character assassination, so on this show, it may very well happen. I don't think that he's playing her though. What I think is going to happen is that his version of the article that trashes Serena is released by Georgina, so her and Dan will break up, and he'll be doing some soul searching. Maybe they won't get together again until the finale.

It'd be a real pity if he did.

After that SP? It's kinda obvious.

EXACTLY! This is why I think what happened in the last episode was clear manipulation on his part. He wanted something to write in his article, and now he has it. Basically, he **** shames Serena. It's horrible, but these writers would do something like that.

So the ratings and demo are down from last week? Ha!

I hope the writers learned their lesson. Nothing will save the ratings. Not CB, not DS, nothing. Sht is still sht and will remain sht if its not properly executed.

I had something to say about the discussion that went on in the last thread. The thing is, there is no way of making sense on this show. I don't know if it was writer clashes, or poor planning or whatever, but there have been too many conflicting narratives on the show for anything to make complete sense. If tomorrow they turn around and do DB, that wont be consistent with any of Blair's reactions in the last few episodes. If they do NS, it won't be consistent with how we have seen Serena react to Nate all this while. There is literally nothing they can write at this point that will make sense consistently and retroactively.

And I said this somewhere else, but I liked the episode. Not because it gave me shippy feelings or made me tear up or anything. It's just that for the first time I felt like I was watching actual 21 year olds and actual people talking and interacting and being treated like 21 year old people who are a little too full of themselves. That was the problem with the show for me, since season 3. not so much Chair or Blair or Dair. But the fact that the show had taken these very flawed kids with their very relatable insecurities and turned them into tragic heroes and heroines. Which is ridiculous because their circumstances just don't match up. I loved the DB interaction in season 4 because it was cute and fun and real. Not because Blair is the princess who needs to be rescued from her meaningless fairytale by the pauper, even though her heart lies with the dark knight, or whatever heavy handed angle they were trying to sell. Blair is not a princess, Dan is not the pauper/white knight, Chuck is not the Dark Knight and this isn't some gothic romance. Blair's Queen B fantasies were fun while they were confined to her head and her high school, and not literally validated by the storyline and propped by even adults in the real world.

I liked that Eleanor didn't buy Blair's crap. I liked that Nelly called her out. I loved that Dan pointed out that the article wasn't the problem, her handling of the business was. ( complete opposite of how they treated the video storyline where no one acknowledged that Blair's marriage broke up because she had cheated multiple times and instead blamed the person who had sent the video for everything). And I especially loved that Blair acknowledged that she schemes because she doesn't have the talent for the job she has been given. I didn't hate Blair in this episode at all. She is essentially a flawed character with some good qualities and this works when people react to her accordingly. Not worship her every move and make excuses for her behaviour.

And I really liked the DS scene/fight. Again because it was very real. and equal. My favourite DB episode last season was 514 and this fight reminded me of that. No heavy handed emotions or dark-light analogies, no "We are the world" nonsense, just two kids who have both hurt and been hurt calling each other out, like kids. I am sorry but I'll take a
"I was being sarcastic
so was I
No you were not
Yes I was"

over "You are my lightest light and I am your darkest dark but this world will never understand us" nonsense. Maybe I am no romantic, but none of these characters have storylines that encourage such heavy-handedness. I also loved that they didn't have Serena go "I only did this because I love you so much couldn't handle the pain, you are the best". She said that she loved him but he hurt her and yes, he is being a jerk about the articles, and he is egotistical and hypocritical at times.. And Dan retaliated accordingly. But no one had the upper hand.

Basically super long post, but yes, the episode was not consistent with the storyline over the last season, but nothing on this show is. But in terms of the tone and dialogue, definitely the episode I liked the most after 504.

Exactly. It's not a very Dan-like thing to do but you can never discount anything on this show, especially considering the Ausiello spoiler, and the fact that GG likes to throw things at us without any hints.

We KNOW Georginia shows it to Serena. Someone with a source spoiled it. We also know she is "disgusted" by it.

Blair does get worshipped and praised in the next episode, though? Nelly writes a good article on her clothing line, which was inspired by her bullying dark side. That's kinda saying "Nelly was wrong, Blair was right to be a bully."

Anyone think Blair and Serena are going to end up like the women on the Real Housewives of New York City? Lol.
And great post paradox.

Well, I guess the question is whether he wrote the article before or after him and Serena got back together. If he wrote it before they got back together, he doesn't look too bad, but if he wrote it after they got back together, he looks horrible.
