Yeah, it sucks both X Men 3 and Dark Phoenix don't do the story justice cause it's always been one of my favorite X Men stories. If I had to pick, Dark Phoenix does the story a little better than X Men 3 (Especially when Cyclops wasn't omitted from it like he was in X Men 3) if the MCU ever does the story I expect it to finally be done right, but since the story flopped in both films I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even touch it. I hope I'm wrong though, it's one of the best X Men stories. It deserves to be done right on the big screen!

Yeah. I still have yet to watch ''Dark Phoenix'', but here is what I found from Wikpedia on it: ''The film grossed $65.8 million in the United States and Canada, and $186.6 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $252.4 million.[1] Deadline Hollywood calculated the net loss of the film to be $133 million, when factoring together all expenses and revenues.[102][92]

In the United States and Canada, Dark Phoenix was released alongside The Secret Life of Pets 2, and was initially projected to gross $50–60 million from 3,721 theaters in its opening weekend, with the studio expecting a $50-million debut.[103][3] However, after making $14 million on its first day, including $5 million from Thursday night previews (the lowest X-Men total since The Wolverine's $4 million in 2013), projections were lowered to $34 million. It ended up debuting to $32.8 million, finishing second behind The Secret Life of Pets 2. This was, at the time, the lowest opening weekend total of any film in the franchise by $20 million and the first time an X-Men film did not top the box office the week of its release.[104] In its second weekend, the film fell 71.5% to $9.4 million, finishing fifth.[105] The following weekend, the film was pulled from 1,667 theaters and made $3.5 million, finishing tenth.[106]

In other territories, the film was projected to gross $120–135 million, including $50–60 million from China, for a global debut of around $170 million.[107] The film made $13 million on its first day in China (including previews). It ended up debuting to just $103.7 million internationally and $136.5 million worldwide. Its largest markets were China ($45.6 million), South Korea ($5.1 million), Mexico ($5 million) and the United Kingdom ($4.9 million).[108]

On Rotten Tomatoes, Dark Phoenix holds an approval rating of 22% based on 381 reviews, with an average rating of 4.6/10. The site's critical consensus reads: "Dark Phoenix ends an era of the X-Men franchise by taking a second stab at adapting a classic comics arc—with deeply disappointing results."[109] It is the lowest-rated installment of the X-Men film series on the website.[5] On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 43 out of 100, based on 52 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews."[6] Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "B−" on an A+ to F scale, and those at PostTrak gave it an overall positive score of 69% (with an average 3 out of 5 stars) and a 49% "definite recommend."[104]

In May 2016, Kinberg said that Dark Phoenix would be the first in a new trilogy focusing on the younger versions of the original X-Men characters who had been introduced in Apocalypse.[26] It was initially planned as a two-film story,[121] with the parts to be filmed back-to-back. However, in late pre-production the studio decided to only produce one film with the prequel cast, as new management didn't want any more X-Men movies set in the past due to the reception of X-Men: Apocalypse, resulting in rewrites.[95][122] For a while, there were still plans for a sequel that continued the Phoenix story with an eventual crossover with the New Mutants series based on the "Inferno" storyline,[123][124] but those plans were ultimately cancelled due to the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney. This resulted in footage being cut from both the Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants films that had been intended to be expanded upon in sequels.[125]

Chris Claremont confirmed the two-film plan and revealed that this film centers on Jean as Phoenix and the second was going to feature Dark Phoenix. According to Claremont, the film's purpose is to make the audience fall in love with Jean, while the purpose of the second was to break their hearts.[126][127]

According to visual effects supervisor Greg Butler, the story was originally meant to be more cosmic, but that aspect of the Phoenix was meant for the second part of a two-film story.[35] In June 2017, it was rumored that the Shi'ar alien race would be featured in the film,[128] and Angelina Jolie was being looked at for a role, though she was not expected to accept the part. Jessica Chastain was also potentially being considered for the same character.[129] Chastain herself had admitted her character kept changing,[130] adding that she did not even know that her character was named Vuk until she saw the movie.[131]

Simon Kinberg stated that, he had four hours to tell the story, he would have included the Hellfire Club and Lilandra.[132]''
