Since there is a Superman Discussion thread, I thought I would introduce a thread on this cousin Kara El/Supergirl.

I loved Helen Slater's performance as Kara in the 1984 movie. I know that some did not like it, I liked it myself. Christopher Reeve was supposed to be in it but at the last moment dropped out so they had to do some last minute changes.

I think that many critics make the mistake of comparing it to Superman the movie which I think is wrong. They have different back stories so they should be viewed differently.

The love triangle aspect of the movie was not necessary. It would have been better if Selena was a Lex Luthor type villian instead.

I loved Laura Vandeervoort as Kara on Smallville and if they ever do a Supergirl series she should cast as her.

I don't pay attention to the other incarnations of Supergirl just the one where she and Clark/Kal EL/Superman are cousins.


Anyway, I think that people don't give her credit she should get. I mean she knows more about Krypton and can be Superman's go to for information on their former planet as well as those like General Zod, and the Phantom Zone.

He on the other hand could help her adapt to Earth since she would be homesick.

I would think that she would live in the Fortress of Solitude if not spending a lot of time there since its what she would have as close to home as she could have.

Also Superman being overbearingly protective should annoy her as well unlike in the earlier versions. Kara/Supergirl being annoyed is realistic than in earlier versions.

Kara/Supergirl living with the Kents as their adopted daughter (and Clark's adopted sister) makes better sense than her being adopted by strangers and being Linda Lee.

I enjoyed the latest animated movie, "Superman Unbound" It was very good.

Finally, she would not be a sidekick but an equal partner.



I am enjoying this new series. My first choice would have been Laura Vandervoort but I like Melissa Benoist just the same.

I've always meant to pick up Peter David's run on Supergirl. I hear good things about it.

No I read a few but that was years ago. I mostly watch Smallville s7.
