Smurfs Appreciation Thread

Hi everybody. Saw there wasn't a thread for Smurfs, and asked if I could start one. Any fans out there? Smurfs was one of my favorite shows growing up!

I'm looking forward to the Smurfs movie coming out in the summer.

I've been hoping they'd continue realeasing the rest of the seasons in box sets as they did w/ Volumes 1 and 2. Unfortunately it seems they took a few of the random episodes that were on DVD as "Smurfy Tales" and other random ones, and are now calling them Volumes 3, 4, etc. Any news on that?

Hi Green Day Beetle! Welcome to FF! I haven't seen The Smurfs in so long. I heard that a movie was coming out but haven't seen the cartoon on t.v. for a while now.

Thanks! I actually used to post on FF years ago, but I got a new account now. Its good to be back.

Yea I'm excited about the movie. I'm hoping they do a good job with it. The cartoon I have on DVD, only 2 volumes, but they play it on the Boomerang channel. I always get excited when I see its on. :)

I love The Smurfs! One of my favorites as a child. I still watch it when I can on Boomerrang.

They are making a movie? I didn't know that! That is great! Is it going to be animation or live-action?

I'm not 100% but I think its kinda a mix...live action but the smurfs themselves are gonna be CGI...like when they did the chipmunks a few years ago. I'm really excited, I hope its good. I know Katy Perry is gonna do the voice of Smurfette.

Yes, I think you're right. According to comingsoon.net, this movie will be released July 29th in 2D and 3D.

Wow so soon? That's great. I think that will be pretty neat with the live action and cgi. Do they have a cast list out yet for it?

Green Day Beatle 05-11-2011 10:48 AM

hmmm let me look around and see if i can find one to post!

Green Day Beatle 05-11-2011 10:50 AM

So I suppose I should ask the inevitable question: Is anyone going to see the movie tomorrow? Here's the plot according to Wikipedia:

Quote:

In the Middle Ages, the evil wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria) discovers the Smurfs' village and chases them into a wooded area.

The Smurfs get scattered and Clumsy Smurf (voiced by Anton Yelchin) wanders into a "forbidden" grotto and some of the other Smurfs follow. Since it's also a blue moon, a magical portal within the grotto transports them into present-day Central Park in New York.

They take shelter with married couple Patrick and Grace Winslow (Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays) and try to find a way back to their village before Gargamel finds them
It's a bit interesting that Hank Azaria is playing Gargamel since he has a pretty good range and variety in voices, although image wise, I kinda expected Gargamel to be a little older.

On a bonus side, two of the voice actors who did the original cartoon (Johnathan Winters/Papa Smurf and Frank Welker/Azrael) are doing this film as well.

my favorite cartoon growing up. looking forward to the film next week :)

Stupid question....is Gargamel going to be voiced or live action?
