Fables #1 - The end is just the beginning
The cover of #33. On the Vertigo thread it seems like many of us like this one in particular. So I started a thread for it. We had one ages ago, but it has since disappeared. Enjoy. And some starter discussions. Who are your favorite characters? And what's your favorite storyline so far? __________________

I still haven't picked up any of the trades. The only thing I've read from this series is The Last Castle.

Bigby kicks so much arse, it's not even funny. and the Black Forest Witch is cool too.
and as far as story arcs go, it doesn't get better than "March of the Wooden Soldiers". everything down to the last detail was perfect. i don't think they'll ever top it but they still put out quality stuff. |

One of these days I'll break down and buy a trade or two....one day.

"March of the Wooden Soldiers" is what sucked me back in. I actually have to reread a lot of it to discuss it again.
Maybe it comes from an X-fan POV, but Bigby feels a little to Wolverinish to me. But I do like him. I think Snow is probably one of the best comics heroine ever. One nice thing about Fables is it isn't too predictable. It doesn't follow any particular formula, so a lot of different things can happen. __________________

This is one of the few comics I still get. I've enjoyed it since I read the first issue. Snow is so refreshing, she just has something that makes her stand out and I love Bigby.
The only thing I did not care for was The Last Castle. I'm not sure what it was but I felt it was missing something. |

I like TLC but I didn't care for the art.

I agree. The story was pretty good, but the art left something to be desired.

Crow, the story you read is pretty improtant. It seems like a stand alone, but it eventually ties into another major story arc.

The Last Castle- great story. yes, the art wasn't all that great. it just seemed a little uneven, sort of cartoony weird. but i personally read the comics for the story anyways. i loved the storytelling. the only shame is in all the characters that were sacrficed and can't be used again. i'd have loved to see Robin Hood in Fabletown. in fact, that's the one thing about Fables that's also positive/negative and that's that the characters all stand a chance of dying. i liked Weyland but he's gone. Bluebeard could have been given a lot more story, but he's off. and while it adds to the excitement and uncertainty that anybody could go at any moment, it just sucks sometimes.
oh, and forgot to add Pinnochio as one of my fav characters. "I want to grow up, I want my *bleep* to drop, and I want to get laid." |

joe, you just reminded me; Prince Charming is my favorite character. He always cracks me up.
I miss Weyland too. The neat thing about Fables is anything can happen. A lot of the time I end up liking the *side* stories. I liked the one about Bigby in WWII. #34 came out Wednesday. It's a story about Jack who head to Hollywood. It was pretty interesting. __________________

I just picked up the first trade on ebay (quite a bargain at $3.00 I thought), so I'll be able to actually have an opinion on this thread in a little while.

Sounds great. Let us know what you think. $3 is a good deal.

I've been getting lots of bargains on ebay lately. I don't know where I'm getting this good luck from.
I still haven't recieved it yet. I'm figuring I'll get it on Monday or so. __________________

$3 for any trade is a good price. 'Legends in Exile' starts the series off well, no stupid little intros for everybody, just bam, right into a storyline. the art is good, but Buckingham comes in the arc afterwards and you'll notice a change in Snow's appearance somewhat.
and i don't want to spoil the upcoming issues for you guys, but the Vertigo site has some cool previews. |
