It is very disturbing, I agree.
I keep thinking that it can't be as bad as it seems, though. People just don't realize what Donald Trump really is because he's great at saying what people want to hear. He never means it, of course. But he's great at hot air. __________________

I have never liked him, so I totally believe it's exactly what he thinks.
He gets people fired up, but in a bad way, for sure. That is disturbing, any way I look at it. __________________

I think you're right.
The only good thing is that the president doesn't have that much power, in the end. So, whatever happens, it doesn't really change things. __________________

I keep forgetting that.
A president for the most part, is a figurehead. They try to change things, but it doesn't always work. __________________

I think everyone forgets that.

That's true.
It makes things very stressful, which is why I hate the news this time of year, or election year. They all smear the others to make themselves look good. __________________

Yeah, I know you don't like watching the news.
No worries. You don't have to watch the news, especially since your mother passes along the important bits (namely, stuff that will affect you). __________________

I just don't like the candidates all smearing each other, even within their own party.
That's in all the political ads we get during shows, too. It's just all such negative behavior, it makes me not like anyone running for office. Obama was definitely different for me. |

Obama ran a positive campaign.
That was a rare thing, to be honest. I'm not sure we're likely to see that again anytime soon. __________________

I'd say we're definitely not going to see that again any time in the near future.
If ever again. I wish politicians had learned from him. |

You live in a strange country for politics.
There seems to be this notion that things in the United States must always be different than the way things are done everywhere else around the world. And, hey, you guys don't do half bad. But, yeah, this whole thing with "pacs" that don't at all work with a candidate, oh no, but who spend millions and millions of dollar to run ads to sling mud at adversaries, that's weird. That money could do so much good elsewhere. But the candidate went that probably probbaly wouldn't get elected. It's just weird. __________________

I know. I'd love to see the money go to help people.
Help people and the country. It's extremely weird. People, I think, could donate their money differently, rather than to politicians. |

Well, on the GOP side anyway, it seems like a lot of money they get are from multibillionaires.
Like, every election cycle, you hear about this guy or those brothers donating nearly a billion dollar to support this or that candidate. Someone who can afford to do that could probably afford to donate to other causes on the side as well. I don't know. __________________

Both sides are getting their money through people with tons of money.
Or through celebrity appearances. Like charging 6 digits just to get in and see the support and appearance. At least Hilary is. |

Well, sure, lots of rich people donate to Hillary.
But, unless she's got someone like Sheldon Adelson, Foster Friess, the Koch brothers, Robert Mercer, Ken Langone or Joe Ricketts in her corner... I mean, she's got rich people in her corner, but they're donating to the tune of thousands (even tens of thousands) of dollars. The GOP donors are donating millions and tens of millions. To me, there's a difference there. __________________
