Yeah, I pictured them like the 3 bears in the fairy tale.

Yeah, that makes good sense.

Each of them serves its purpose based on their size.

And how the weather may play out.

Fortunately, we haven't had much rain lately.

At least, not when I've been out.

It seems to rain at nights, though.

And this weekend, I think it rained a little during the big race.

We haven't had rain in a while.

And we need it now.

There's a burn warning at the moment.

Meaning you're not supposed to burn outside, trash and branches.

Too much of a fire outbreak.

Ah, the joys of summer, huh?

We've had plenty of rain here.

But the fires still burn up north (where there are more woods, of course).

I hope you get some rain, but not so much that it becomes a nuisance.

How's that?

That works.

A good balance of rain.

We had some storms yesterday, but not much rain.

I worry about fires up there, after the one. I can't think of the city's name now.

Fort McMurray.

It's interesting, because other, much smaller, cities were also affected by the fire.

But Fort McMurray is the big oil town.

So, naturally, it's the one that gets all the attention.

I mean, fair enough, it was genuinely also the largest by far of that whole area.

The fire's under control now.

They literally just announced that on the news last night.

So they'll start rebuilding soon.

Thanks.

I had trouble remembering.

Wow, I can't imagine somewhere starting to rebuild that fast, after a fire that huge.

And I had no idea it hadn't been under control.

Well, there's a reason why Fort McMurray is the biggest town that was affected.

It's a lot of woods up there.

More woods than people anyhow.

Every summer, we always always have tons of fires "up North" all across Canada because of that.

This one was just larger than most, that's all.

Also, they're going to rush to rebuild because Fort McMurray is an oil town and Alberta, the province it's in, is an oil province.

We call it "Texas to the North" up here, because it's a province that has two main industries: oil and cattle.

And they've had a couple of rough years financially because the price of oil has gone down.

Fort McMurray plays a big role in their economy, so they're gonna want to get back on the horse as quickly as possible, so to speak.

Ah, I didn't know that.

All I saw/heard about it was about the people and neighborhoods and businesses.

I didn't know there were a lot of trees there.

Okay, that's good to know-what's what.

And yeah, Mom gets some money from the oil business, and it's been wayyyy down for sure.

Fort McMurray is a big enough town.

It would have neighbourhoods and plenty of subsidiary businesses.

I mean, it's an oil town, but people who go there to work have to eat, have to drive around, pass the time, etc.

So you need grocery stores, restaurants, churches, cinemas, bars, etc.

I have no doubt that more than the oil stuff burned.

So, for the people who live there, it's a good thing that they're rebuilding.

Yeah, they didn't show a big balance, from the news I saw.

At least on our local news. I guess given that we're mostly neighborhoods, it was something we could relate to.

It's really good they're rebuilding.

And especially that they're doing it quickly.

To be fair, they didn't necessarily show a whole lot of details here either.

But they don't need to say or show a lot for people here to understand what happened.

Or why they will rush to rebuild.

You might even say that "Fort McMurray" is a bit of a code word around here for "oil industry."

In kinda of the same way you hear about "Roswell" and you think "aliens" or "Miami" and you think "Cuban immigrants," you know?

Oh, that makes sense.

Okay, Miami and Cuban immigrants never occurred to me.

That must just be up there.

I guess it may be that way here, I just don't think of anything other than like "weather" .

Miami = sunshine and afternoon thunderstorms.

Well, you still get the point I was trying to make, right?

I wouldn't necessarily generalize my associations to the whole of Canada since I've only seen a little bit of it myself.

Plus, I've met Americans who make those associations, too.

But the point is that there are connections that you make without needing to be told the whole story.

Like when Oprah was sued by Texans for badmouthing hamburgers on her show.

No one had to explain that Texas has a lot of cattle farmers.

Yeah, I get that now,

With the example of Oprah.

That is true-I can see how people wouldn't need all the details to figure it out.
