In Honor of Valentine's Day--Best and Worst Screen Couple

***In honor of Valentine's Day, let's discuss our favorite on screen couples as well as the ones that are the worst***

*Please keep the bashing down and actually discuss why you don't like a couple...This isn't the place to say things like "They are the worst couple because I can't stand the actors"....Actually look at the couple and discuss their relationship.

One of my favorites:

Guy Patterson and Faye Dolan from That Thing You Do!
The entire movie I was rooting for them as a couple. That final scene where they kiss makes me swoon everytime. He was always so attentive to her and genuinely had feelings for her.

Another Favorite:

Allie and Noah from The Notebook

Basically because of that scene in the street where they dance......I loved that they were able to fight and love at the same time.

One of my least favorites:

Peter Parker and Mary Jane from the Spider-Man series

He was too good for her. She comes across as really selfish and whiny.

Great idea! Thanks for starting! Here are mine (in no particular order):

BEST COUPLES:

Naomi Watts/Ed Norton in The Painted Veil
- I was surprised how good the movie was over all. It's one of my favorites. They worked really well together, and I loved how their relationship grew from infatuation (in Ed's case), hate, to love. It was beautiful.

Keira Knightley/Matthew Macfadyen in Pride & Prejudice (2005)
- I loved them. I especially loved their rain scene and the last scene where Mr. Darcy walks to Lizzie through the morning fog. The whole movie was beautiful.

Drew Barrymore/Dougray Scott in Ever After
- My favorite from my adolescent days. They started off as opposites but became perfect for each other. A great re-telling of the Cinderella story.

Julia Roberts/Hugh Grant in Notting Hill
- Another favorite from back in the days. The whole premise of a famous actress falling for a regular joe is a bit too unreal, but the story works. Hugh's charm and Julia's charisma here made the couple work.

Meg Ryan/Billy Crystal in When Harry Met Sally
- Superficially, they make an odd-looking couple, but they worked so well together! I loved their amusing banter, and I loved how they felt so comfortable with each other and how they knew each other so well. It felt really genuine.

WORST COUPLES:

All of the couples in Valentine's Day
- All of the couples did not work. The chemistry felt forced, awkward, and contrived. It was cringeworthy.

Drew Barrymore/Eric Bana in Lucky You
- Usually, Drew's pretty good in creating chemistry, but I felt nothing between these two. It just felt really bland and monotone.

Evan Rachel Wood/Larry David in Whatever Works
- Woody Allen didn't make it work for these two this time. I just couldn't see why Evan's character fell head over heels for Larry's character. With the right writing, it could've worked.

Hilary Swank/Gerard Butler in P.S. I Love You
- It didn't feel believable. The whole movie was just bad.

Best Couple

Katerine Hepburn and Cary Grant in Bringing Up Baby
-not only is it a hilarious comedy, these two are just perfect together in it.

Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge
-do I seriously need to explain myself? They were just so hot and funny and sweet together. I really felt it

Worst Couple

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in The Twilight Saga
-they aren't horrible in Twilight but they are in New Moon! Absoultely zero chemistry between these two. Almost painful to watch

Jim Sturgess and Evan Rachel Wood Across the Universe
-I love this movie and I wouldn't mind this couple too much but Evan Rachel Wood was sorely miscast in this film and I think it really effects how I feel about the couple.

I completely agree with Moulin Rouge! I can't believe I left them off the list--it's my favorite movie!

I think that Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana in The Time Traveler's Wife were very good. I loved them in that movie.

And I completely agree about the Twilight Saga. Kristen and Rob are so forced.

I completely agree with Edward Norton and Naomie Watts in The Painted Veil. It's such a fantastic movie!

One couple I'm the biggest sucker for is Roger & Mimi from RENT. I couldn't even tell you... I love them. They were played by Adam Pascal and Rosario Dawson in the movie. Adam Pascal is, of course, the original Roger on stage so it works out even better.

They had great chemistry! The storyline was different from the book (which I liked more), but Eric Bana & Rachel McAdams more than made up for it.

Glad you agree! I'm still so smitten with that movie even now.

Eric and Rachel weren't too bad, but they're not my favorite. The movie disappointed me (compared to the book), so sadly, it kinda rubbed off on Eric and Rachel for me.

I agree with all of this. Another then real life couple who didn't work onscreen were Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. It was so awkward.

It was. Watching them onscreen was not enjoyable. Something about them acting together was just off.
