Movie Title: Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon
Original/Remake: Original/Mocumentary/Horror
Year: 2006
Actors/Actresses: Nathan Baesel, Angela Goethals, Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Zelda Rubinstein
Plot: The next great psycho horror slasher has given a documentary crew exclusive access to his life as he plans his reign of terror over the sleepy town of Glen Echo, all the while deconstructing the conventions and archetypes of the horror genre for them.
What did you like about it? I have to give it credit. It starts off a bit on the slow side, but has some funny part's. It's a cute mocumentary, up to the twist ending, that goes from funny, to bloody and kinda creepy. I'v seen it a few times. I recommend watching it, just to watch the (180) at the end.
What did you not like about it? Hmmm, really the fact that it takes a while to get going and is more of a comedy spoof at the beginning and dosen't warm up to a horror until the end.

i really liked 'persepolis' as well....in alot of respects it reminded me of written memoir....as i said in one of my earlier posts where i described my thoughts on the film...i expressed the opinion that i was hoping that it won the oscar as the best foreign film at this year's academy awards ceremonies......it's the official french entry into that category....wouldn't that be something if it won? an animated film taking the oscar in that category would be a first...here's hoping...:)

last night in a theater........for a change of pace.....my family and i saw 'the water horse'.......which is just a nice wholesome type of family film..and one i'd recommend for all ages......(yes....every so often we do see "mainstream" films in theaters.....the last one we saw, at thanksgiving, was 'enchanted')....

a while back i saw 'into the wild'.....i thought it was just ok.....once again i thought it was an overrated film....i'm just really hard to please when it comes to film......i really liked the cinematography...the only other films, that i've seen recently that have been as good in that category are....'the assassination of jesse james.....' and 'there will be blood'.....

if your looking for something a little bit different, in a film, that stars emile hirsch...i would suggest 'the mudge boy'....it's a homo-erotic tale about a boy and his pet chicken......i saw it in a theater a couple of year's ago......it's has a rather unique ending....

i don't do well with formats....i've always thought outside of the box and danced to a different drummer......i hope that my old way of posting to this thread doesn't upset anyone.......from what i understand it's not the rule to do it the new way, as others are choosing to....but then again without rules there would be anarchy...........

mukooh, hehe, don't worry! The format is indeed optional. :) Plus, we'd read your great posts anyway!

Melissa Ann 01-07-2008 02:31 AM

Yeah the format was just a suggestion if you don't know what to say about the movie you've watched, it's nothing mandatory at all.

Post your reviews however you wish! :)

Sweeney Todd - Great Movie

ocfan27 01-07-2008 12:46 PM

Cry-Baby-it was on tv and it was johnny depp so i watched it...it was interesting to say the least. the plot was pretty good but the lip syncing was horrible! i like it much better when johnny does his own singing. he did look great in the movie!

jackiehydelover 01-07-2008 01:49 PM

I'm with you all the way mukooh! I also hope that "Persepolis" s nominated for foreign film... It's just such a great film! And I agree with "Into the Wild" being highly overrated! And while Hal Holbrook was great in the film, I can't stand behind the belief that the man deserves a SAG nomination for the role and that he was screwed out of a Golden Globe nomination. If anyone was screwed out of a nomination, it was Paul Dano for "There Will Be Blood."

The Last King of Scotland - The movie was so great. It really depressed me knowing that the events were true. James and Forest were perfect! Forest was so charming and scary at the same time, he really made me nervous for James’ character. On a shallow note, James is nice to look at. :sigh: lol.

The Bourne Ultimatum - I liked it a lot, it was action-packed and fun to root for Bourne. I’m happy with the ending. Matt Damon was great!

I've started up again with my daily dvd viewing/review. I'm up to American Psycho right now. Wow what a strange fun movie. The over the top screen play and delivery of the lines is fantastic.

Sheebs: My local movie reviewer said for Atonement that he couldn't understand why James McAvoy was in the movie as he wasn't attractive enough and he couldn't see females liking him. I've never really liked him as a reviewer--but this statement made me realize how out of touch he is. James is hot and is a great actor. Maybe it's time for my local critic to retire.

Movie Title: Atonement
Original/Remake: Original (from a book)
Year: 2007
Actors/Actresses: James McAvoy, Keira Knightley, Romola Garai, Vanessa Redgrave
Plot: Briony Tallis tells a lie and ruins the life of her sister Cecilia and her love Robbie, and basically everyone else in the movie.
What did you like about it? The acting was superb, the direction was superb, basically it was just a fantastic movie that had me hooked from the very beginning.
What did you not like about it? Nothing. Loved it all.
Your overall personal rating: :star::star::star::star::star:

Definitely the best movie I've seen in a long time. I'll be buying the DVD when it comes out, and I think I'm more in love with James now, I didn't think that was possible. :D

Movie Title: Fight Club
Original/Remake: Original
Year: 1999
Actors/Actresses: Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, Helena Bonham Carter
Plot: (Remember to use Spoiler Tags for Newer Films) An office employee and a soap salesman build a global organization to help vent male aggression.
What did you like about it? Everything. So original. Solid story.
What did you not like about it? Some of the scenes drug on, but overall it was a great film.
Your overall personal rating::star::star::star::star: out of 5

chasing starlight 01-07-2008 09:27 PM

Movie Title: Juno
Original/Remake: Original
Year: 2007
Actors/Actresses: Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman
Plot: 16 year old Juno gets pregnant by her best friend and decides to put the baby up for adoption.
What did you like about it? It was funny and sad and touching all at the same time. And Ellen Page is a great actress. She'll be a household name, mark my words.
What did you not like about it? Some of the language was a bit too "hip" I really don't hear teens talking like that.
