Dougray Scott got very mixed reviews for his performance as Matt Busby, and I felt he was treated very unfairly.
I watched the making-of documentaries on the DVD and it's obvious how highly regarded he was among other cast members. David Tennant thought he nailed the accent (which makes sense because he is Scottish after all) and people talked at length at how much he studied Busby in preparation for the role (his mannerisms, his way of moving and his emotions regarding the tragedy). Also, Scott knew a lot about football and I think his father was a player. Then all of a sudden, the movie came out and the reviews were brutal on him. But if you read what Busby's own son (Sandy) said then you'll understand that the problem lay with the crew more than Scott. Sandy released a statement saying he hated that they never showed his father dressed or acting like a coach, as the real Busby sometimes dressed in jogging wear and trained the boys on the pitch. He felt Busby came across as a gangster in what he wore, how he spoke and how he stood. Again, I feel Scott was limited by the wardrobe he was given and it should be noted that there wasn't much focus on football being played by the boys, so Busby acted as more of an observer than a team leader in the movie. I still think Dougray Scott portrayed him as appropriately emotional and sympathetic when it mattered. I'm sure it was a very difficult role to play, because Busby rarely liked to talk about the crash itself to people close to him. He usually put on a brave face and related everything to the positive aspects of how football thrived in the aftermath of such a harsh time for the club (not to mention the victims' families). __________________

Always loved the banter scene in the dressing room:
DUNCAN: Listen to this, Bobby - the Kings of Romance here! DAVID: I do fine playing field. [blows kiss] EDDIE: Listen to him, thinks he's Casanova and the actors all spent a lot of time together off set, visiting the Manchester United Museum in Old Trafford + football training together for practice + to build chemistry as well as get to know their characters. __________________

The scene where Bobby is asked up to Busby's office and tries to reserve his excitement about making the team Busby is dying to laugh when he leaves.

I would recommend this book The Lost Babes by Jeff Connor for learning more about the 8 players who died in the Munich crash of '58, five of whom had also played for Manchester United in the Youth Team (Bent, Pegg, Colman, Edwards and Jones).
The author also goes into detail about the severe injuries sustained by Jackie Blanchflower and Johnny Berry that left them unable to play professional football ever again. It is often speculated that this book wasn't available to purchase in the MUFC Museum because United executives weren't happy with how it does not uphold the message of Man Utd being a "family club". For example, family members and teammates such as Harry Gregg provide details about how United staff took the "out with the old, in with the new" approach after Munich. Jackie and Johnny were forced out of accommodation pretty quickly (and by all accounts rather coldly). __________________

Yesterday, the official MUFC account paid tribute to Sir Bobby Charlton who made his debut at the club 65 years ago and was a survivor of the Munich crash

It's nice to see Cristiano Ronaldo return to MUFC over a decade after leaving.
He said many times over the years that Old Trafford was like home to him + Sir Alex Ferguson was like a second father and he was clearly being truthful. Quote:
