I never cared much for the cartoon, but the original film is a classic!

I didn't really like the cartoon. The films though are wicked!!! It is a brilliant ensemble of actors, most of which were on SNL at one time or another.

See, I thought the cartoons were cheesy so I didn't really thought about watching the movies. But if the movies were much much better, I'd probably check them out.
