And those brother are just :thud: So I thought I would start a thread for it, in case any one else loves this movie as much as I do. :D |
I don't really care for this film but I think it's sweet you started the thread! :)
There are a lot of people here who love musicals and classics, so you may want to check the Master List to find the relevent threads - I'm sure you'd find people there. And welcome to the boards! |

I loved this movie! It was hilarious, with great songs and a good message. :D My friend got me to watch it, and though I resisted, because I always thought I'd hate musicals, I ended up loving it (and a bunch of other ones she forced me onto as well). :)
|
Who was your favourite out of the brothers? I always liked Frank. :) He just always appealed to me.
|
 I like musicals! I just didn't care for this one, for some odd reason...I don't like Oklahoma, either. Something to do with the country setting, maybe?
That being said, the dance-off between the brothers and the local men is fantastic, as far as choreography goes. And if you dance like the little smilie then I'm sure you look darling! |
Oh my god I friggin love this movie!! My mom made me watch it when I was a kid and a few months ago they aired it again on tv and I got all nostalgic and taped it and god I still love it
I know it's an old movie and god it's even older than I am (I'm 22) but I think it's part of a time when they made good lovestories on tv and I think all the kids should see it instead of all those fighting or war movies that you have nowadays. It's just a classic love story and about how things used to be between men and women and even though I'm very much of a feminist  I still like the movie very much. |
I love this movie...even if it's not very Politically correct when you look deeper into it :)
I adore the barn-raising dance and all those songs!! My favorite brothers are Caleb and Gideon...just love how Russ Tamblyn (sp?) dances! http://www.wehateyouandyourhorrendou...ges/7bros2.JPG Gideon in blue shirt and Caleb in green. Quote:

Oh yeah I loved Gideon the most as well!

How can anyone NOT love this movie?! The brothers are handsome, the clothes are beautiful, the scenery is stunning, the pacing is great, the dance numbers are clever: everything just fits.
I personally found Jacques D'Amboise who played Ephraim the most good looking of the brothers. He was also in a lengthy ballet sequence in CAROUSEL. :) Also, who can forget this final scene where everyone gets married in a shotgun wedding ceremony? https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pr...3br3Y3sCDfglVA |
I loved that this movie portrayed brothers as very close to each other. It illustrated a strong family bond and when they make decisions, they're extremely united on them. The only other movies I can think of to portray positive brotherly bonds are mafia ones.
I also love that the actors of the Pontipee brothers were very similar looking. Russ Tamblyn probably looked the least like the others, but it wasn't an issue because he played the baby brother and it suited his personality to be less macho than the others. |
Great chemistry in this cast, I particularly liked how the writers had Adam's brothers warm up to Milly very quickly instead of rebelling against her cleanliness rules. It was impressive how quickly they adapted to improving their manners.

Oh nooo :( Rest in peace, Jane. You were wonderful as Milly.
