I agree, I would of hated for Cotton to be the killer. They tried too hard to make him suspicious, but after he was framed, put in prison, and on death row why would he get out just to kill people? Especially when he was accused of doing that before and kept vowing he was innocent? It just wouldn't of made sense and made Cotton look like an idiot. I wish Cotton got more in the Scream series, I still hate that they kill him at the beginning of Scream 3. He should of lasted as long as Sidney, Gale, and Dewey IMO.

I agree, his death was completely unnecessary and basically wasted his survival in the sequel. He's the reason why Sidney lived to tell the tale, yet he never really gets the apology or justice he deserved for being wrongly imprisoned. It's a shame because Liev was brilliant in the role and It think the third movie would have strongly benefited from Cotton living to the end.

The idea that they might have made him the killer in the third movie really proves how little thought they put into that one. Whilst I always like to think of this series as a trilogy, you could tell the scriptwriter was struggling for where to keep going in terms of setting up a motive for the new killer (both in movies 2 and 3).

They did Cotton dirty. He was barely in the first film cause he was locked up, finally got airtime in the second film (but basically did nothing but whining about getting an interview) then gets quickly killed off in the third film SMH. He should of gotten more, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised by how they threw him away cause I also hated how they killed Randy off in Scream 2! I don't get that either! I think that was a huge mistake as well, but maybe they had to be sacrificial lambs cause they didn't want to kill Sidney (They better never touch her!) Gale, or Dewey (Even though they killed him in Scream 5. Ugh, WTF are you doing!!!) I also agree all of that is one of the many reasons I mainly still see this as a trilogy too. It should of stayed over at 3, the fourth movie wasn't necessary and neither was 5 (Now Dewey is gone, plus Billy suddenly having a daughter? Huh?) now a sixth film with no Sidney. Another unnecessary mess of films in a horror series. It's sad horror movies always have to go off the rails with dumbass sequels that aren't needed and ruin what made them great in the first place. I can't think of one horror series they haven't eventually ruined.

Oh, for sure
Literally every series I have seen, despite how much I've liked or loathed them, has had at least one terrible installment.

I enjoyed the Chucky movies until that awful recent one where Andy was locked in a mental asylum (think it was Cult of Chucky). I enjoyed Nightmare on Elm Street until the laughable 6th movie where Freddy randomly has a very bland daughter.

Scream was at its peak with the first movie, but as much as people hate the third movie, I did like the concept of the killer being a long-lost sibling who was enraged at Sidney's survival tale and on a revenge mission. The final scene in that movie, with Sidney not being afraid to leave the door open, brought a pleasing resolution to the series and that's why I've never had interest in watching beyond that one. Toy Story 4 destroyed the memory of a perfect trilogy.

I personally like Curse and Cult of Chucky cause it got Chucky back to a horror series. Seed of Chucky is the worst film to me, I hated how they seemed to turn Child's Play into a comedy with that and Bride of Chucky. You should also check out the Chucky TV show if you haven't, it's so good! I'm just glad they got Chucky back on track cause I didn't know what the hell they were doing after Seed of Chucky. I was completely fine with the films staying dead after that, but they really redeemed him again IMO. I also agree that "Freddy's Dead" is the worst Freddy Krueger movie. People always seem to crap on the second film, but it's nothing compared to the sixth one. Yeah, another film where the villain has a kid out of nowhere, GMAFB. I also hate when they do ridiculous lore out of nowhere with how to kill them. Just like there it had to be Freddy's daughter, they also did it in "Jason Goes to Hell," where it had to be a Voorhees that killed him with a special knife. What? All that only for these killers to suddenly be back in another movie where none of that bs mattered. Horror movies always turn into a lazy mess.

The first Scream movie was always the best, but I also liked the second and third film too. I didn't mind the killer being Sidney's long lost brother, I just still mainly hate it was only one killer. I always loved the films having two killers. I do wish they stopped at Scream 3 since it had great closure for Sidney, Gale, and Dewey. As for Toy Story, ITA! Toy Story 4 is my least favorite (but I don't hate it) but I mainly hate how it ruins the PERFECTION of Toy Story 3's ending for sure. Unnecessary just like Scream 4 was. I also hate that Andy went through a lot giving Bonnie Woody, only for her to stop playing with him and he becomes a "lost" toy. I hate that he also doesn't stay with Buzz and everyone. In general, it's just a really crappy ending after 3's perfect ending like I said. Studios are just greedy and ruin everything when they won't let a perfect ending or trilogy just stay in place.

Maybe they changed it for the third one because audiences didn't respond as well to the Mickey/Billy's mother duo as they did Billy/Stu.

Also, if Roman had a partner in crime then it might have lessened his impact, as he was meant to have been the sole ~mastermind~ behind the scenes of Sidney's life spiraling downhill since before the first movie.

Think they originally intend for their second killer in Scream 3, ended up changing their minds during filming from what I've read.

I think I heard they originally had a second killer too since they left other red herrings. I think I heard before that the girl that Sidney caught in the bathroom with the Scream mask was originally the second killer. I guess it ultimately worked out for Roman to be the only killer and wasn't too bad, but I always liked two people doing it. I guess I'm glad Scream 4 and 5 went back to that tradition.

Does that explain why her screaming in her death scene was so over the top?
