Brokeback Mountain - December 9, 2005 (some minor spoilers)

I've looked through many pages of this forum, but haven't seen a thread about Brokeback Mountain, so hopefully it's okay that I'm starting one.

This movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Heath Ledger, Michelle Williams, Anne Hathaway, Randy Quaid, Linda Cardellini and Anna Faris, among others. And it's directed by Ang Lee.

Summary: A raw, powerful story of two young men, a Wyoming ranch hand and a Texas rodeo cowboy, who meet in the summer of 1963 sheepherding in the harsh, high grasslands of contemporary Wyoming and form an unorthodox yet life-long bond--by turns ecstatic, bitter and conflicted.

Will post pictures as they become available. If anyone has any, please share them. I have found screencaps from a 10 second teaser trailer that is on the Vanity Fair DVD, but don't have permission to post them here.

Release date: October 7, 2005.

I'm excited to see this movie. Can't wait to see Michelle. Glad to know there's a release date, does anyone know if it's limited release or wide release?

I can't wait to see this movie, either. It has a great cast, and a great story. If you haven't read the short story, I would highly recommend it (you can find it on the internet).

About wide vs. limited? My best guess is that it'll probably be wide, but only at about 1000-1500 theaters, or possibly less. Brokeback Mountain is already one of the most talked about movies of the year, but unfortunately, the gay content will probably bring down the theater count a bit. Hopefully I'm wrong, though, and it's at 2000+ theaters.

Should I have waited awhile to start this thread? The movie doesn't open for close to 8 months. Hopefully there will be lots of news and pictures coming in between now and then, though.

I've been waiting for this movie to be released forever. Can't wait! I already saw some caps from the 10 second teaser of the movie that came in the Vanity Fair DVD. Anyone read the short story yet? I found it online, but haven't gotten around to reading it, but I'll read it eventually, certainly before I see the movie.

As usual I'm late to the table - but that sounds fascinating. Can't wait to find out more (and no, I don't think we had a thread).

I've read most of the short story, and it's very good, and interesting. When I read it, I'd already heard that Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger were going to be the two main characters, so of course I was picturing them when I read it. But it is very well written.

Glad to see that there are a few other people who are excited about this movie coming out!

I had some free time last night and read the story. Wow. The ending made me sad, though.

I've been anticipating this ever since I found out Jake and Anne Hathaway are going to be in it. Gotta read the story soon, though..

This is my no.1 movie I'm looking forward to the most (possibly even over Goblet of Fire). The short story is incredible and it doesn't hurt that Jake and Heath will be in it together.

It's hard not to, isn't it? Picturing Jake and Heath in those situations is...nice. I'm really looking forward to their performances.

Sushi, I'm with you. Brokeback Mountain is the movie I want to see most so far this year, but GoF is a very, very close second. Too bad both of these movies aren't coming out for months.

Unfortunately, the site that I printed Brokeback Mountain from no longer has the story. Sorry I can't help.

But I do want to post the link to a site with screencaps from the teaser trailer. Hopefully it's okay that I'm doing that. The link is HERE.
