My other favorite musical movie is Across The Universe and it's a really nice movie that takes all of The Beatles songs and makes them into a cool concept. I got the movie Across The Universe because I happened to have a crush on Jim Sturgess and I started liking him when him provide the voice of Soren in Legend Of The Guardians and I never knew that Jim Sturgess could sing and he acts really good in Across The Universe and if you like The Beatles you'll love Across The Universe

My favorite scene in MOULIN ROUGE -
THAT look on Satine's face when she switches from heartbroken to stoic. Also, that brilliant rendition of "The Show Must Go On" __________________

The stoicism of that scene!
Heartbreaking moments for sure! |

I thought Nicole did a great job portraying Satine's sickness in a subtle way throughout the movie. Having to play a person suffering from consumption (and choke up blood) but also play the 'Sparkling Diamond' facade for the public, it was just a very well-rounded performance.

It's also a true to life sort of thing. Showing the public one version of yourself while the real you suffers in silence depending on your home life/situation.

Absolutely.
I was really impressed because you don't expect her character to be so deep when they first introduce her in the movie (she's basically planning to seduce the Duke in order to get him to invest for Harold) and then you find out more about her true strength as the movie progresses. __________________

She took on so much in the end.
One of the other scenes that I loved that showcased her struggle with her illness was how she's starting the performance of the show, and hits the high note before having to pause and slightly cough. |

I'm a huge musical fan, listen to at least 2 a day on Spotify, and I have never seen Moulin Rouge all the way through.

How can you have not seen this all the way through!
If you're interested Matt, we're doing a planned watch for Drama films this month and this Sunday is Drama/Musical, the feature is "The Greatest Showman". Check out the topped thread! |

Oh, yes This happens twice - during the final performance and the beginning of the movie when she's on the very high swing singing 'Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend' __________________

I thought the cover versions of songs would bug me (there are several - Bowie, The Police and Queen to name a few) but I thought Baz Luhrmann pulled it off quite nicely Nicole, Jim and Ewan have nice singing voices for people who are primarily known as actors. Also, the covers are kind of important to the plotline. The lyrics reflect the characters' emotions. __________________

I thought they did well with the covers, that's what made me love it actually.
Plus the solo of "Roxanne". |
