Perfect timing on the new thread
I saw the newest Apes movie . "War for the planet of the apes" I kept missing out and seeing other movies Saw this today , I thought it was very good , it gave the fans a movie where you want the apes to win . Andy Serkis, as Cesar was so so good . Then you have Woody Harrelson as the Colonel head of the human revolt to rid the world of Apes . Unsung new actres is 13 yr old Amiah Miller, this girls role she can't speak , yet she is helped by the apes and eventually in her own way helps to Apes . Unlike the first of the new planet of the apes movies , this time we got more drama /emotion then any of the other movies . Plenty of violence yet less then the others . Also as a older movie fan , I was a huge fan of the first three original planet of the apes movies . After the third , it got to be overkill. The end of Charlton Heston's planet of the apes is perhaps one of The most iconic moments in movie history __________________

I felt it was time to open one. Surprised there wasn't one before! I have yet to see the latest but loved all the others.

I cannot sit through ANY of the latest trilogy of Planet of the Apes movies without crying buckets of tears The performances are so realistic in motion capture, and the dramatic moments with Caesar - whether he's getting ostracized in 'RISE', getting shot in 'DAWN' or basically sacrificing himself in 'WAR', I'm always so emotional and have tears running down my face. This trilogy is incredible.
Andy Serkis' performance as Ceasar and the journey this ape went through during these three movies will stay with me forever. He was more powerful than most of what you would see on screen in non-CGI movies these days. __________________

that original 1968 POTA film, the ending is still such a surreal shocker 52 years later.

So I decided to re-watch these films. I still have a few to go but these are my thoughts.
Movie: "PLANET OF THE APES" Year Released: 1968 Rating: 4/5. Comments: The original movie that started it all. Although it's quite dated I can see the appeal. For it's time it's done well. I'm really not too sure why there was a need for the Nova character, she was useless and just got in the way, I guess for male's watching the movie to look at. Movie: "BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES" Year Released: 1970 Rating: 2/5. Comments: I actually really didn't care for the second movie, it just kind of strayed away from the Apes concept with random evolved humans living underground for 2000 years. Also the introduction of Brett seems so forced, almost like the actor playing Taylor just didn't want to be in the film, everything done by Brett could have been Taylor's character. Also once again Nova is around for the ride just to look sexy and finally dies at the end serving zero purpose. Movie: "PLANET OF THE APES" Year Released: 2001 Rating: 4/5. Comments: I remember being 16 years old and going to the theater to see this film and loving it. The ending doesn't make sense at all but I read that it was supposed to be that way. One thing I am still confused about is that in this remake it's not actually earth? The ship lands on some random planet and the Ape Semos somehow takes over. It's interesting to me that the humans in this film are very intelligent and can speak yet are still overtaken by the Apes. It's too bad this version never got a sequel. Movie: "RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES" Year Released: 2011 Rating: 4/5. Comments: First film in the most recent reboot. I really like how this sets up the idea of how Man created science which went wrong to make Apes smarter. Movie: "DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES" Year Released: 2014 Rating: 5/5. Comments: Probably my favourite of the films. The plot is pretty good showing how far the Apes have come in the last 10 years and the struggles of humans with the virus wiping them out (Also ringing some bells there with our current Covid lifestyle). Movie: "WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES" Year Released: 2017 Rating: 4/5. Comments: I saw this in theater but can't recall much of it. It's progressing the story to show how eventually the virus mutates making all Apes around the world smarter and also making humans become mute and unintelligent. You can see from this point how perhaps 2000 years from that point how Apes are the primary species. Cesar dying at the end was very sad. It's funny how the reboots give depth to the Apes and you want them to win. I really hope there is another to be released in this series and it shows the far future of this world. |

I've only seen the last three rebooted films. I never really cared for the other Planet of the Apes movies, but I liked "Rise" more than I thought I would and saw the other two. I really like the series and Caesar is a great protagonist you always root for. I wish he didn't die at the end *cries* I think "Dawn" is the best of the trilogy too.

Honestly, I greatly missed James Franco in 'Dawn'. I was very disappointed how all the characters in 'Rise' just cease to exist by the sequel.
I really loved the relationship between Caesar and Will (Franco) and missed it a lot, even though Jason Clarke did more than a decent job in the second one. __________________

I agree. That was my only problem with the films, the characters just disappear and aren't mentioned in the sequels. I was disappointed JF's character from Rise didn't return in Dawn too.

Well wasn't it said that they died out from the Virus? James Franco is mentioned in Dawn.
